HME ITB Community Service: Rooftop Solar Power Plant Installation and Teaching at Sukamanah Elementary School, Pangalengan.

Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id - The ITB Electrotechnical Student Association (HME ITB) has once again demonstrated its dedication in implementing its knowledge by contributing to the community through a community service program. In this program, 29 students representing HME ITB have successfully installed a rooftop solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 2.1 kWp and taught at SDN Sukamanah, Pangalengan, Bandung in March 2024.

The installation of rooftop solar power plants at Sukamanah Elementary School aims to address a number of fundamental issues facing the school. Located in Sukamanah Village, Pangalengan District, Sukamanah Elementary School has identified several compelling reasons to implement renewable energy solutions. One of these is the damage to the school's infrastructure resulting from the 2019 earthquake. This damage resulted in a lack of electricity for lighting in each classroom. Therefore, reconstruction was necessary, with efforts to improve the electricity system supported by rooftop solar power plants.

HME ITB is also actively involved in teaching students from grades one through six at Sukamanah Elementary School about the concept of renewable energy and basic knowledge about rooftop solar power plants. Thus, this program not only creates a direct positive impact by providing more equitable alternative, environmentally friendly electricity sources and access across schools, but also indirectly increases awareness and knowledge of energy sustainability among the younger generation.
