BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - Professor of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) ITB Prof.Dr.Ing.Ir. Suhardi MT., delivered a scientific oration on "The Contribution of Service Computing to the Digital Transformation of the Service Industry and Public Service Sector" at the West Hall of the ITB Campus, Jalan Ganesa No. 10, Bandung, Saturday, July 13, 2019.

Prof. Suhardi explained that computing is a discipline as old as the advent of calculating tools. This discipline has subsequently developed into specializations, including monodisciplinary, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary.

In his speech, Prof. Suhardi explained about monodiscipline and interdiscipline related to his research.

He explained that monodisciplinary is a perspective on a science that focuses on one academic discipline to solve a specific problem. Meanwhile, interdisciplinary is a perspective that involves transferring one academic discipline into another to solve a problem, thus giving rise to new methods or new academic disciplines. Examples include social computing, computational medicine, behavioral computing, cognitive computing, and service computing.

"The challenges above provide opportunities for service computing to address the digital transformation challenges currently occurring in the service industry and public service sectors," said the Professor in the Information Technology Expertise Group.

Prof. Suhardi explained that service computing will contribute both macro and micro to the digital services industry sector. At a macro level, service computing can provide a system platform to accelerate the digital transformation process in the service industry. For example, in the financial services sector, a platform is needed that can provide software services and service systems for companies using a service computing system platform specifically for specific sectors or subsectors.

The development of service computing science needs to be carried out simultaneously in monodisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary directions. Service computing's contribution to the digital transformation of the service industry and public service sectors is to provide a service computing system platform engineering methodology for building customized software and service systems.
