From Indonesia, Huawei sent 10 students from seven top state universities (PTN) on the island of Java. They were recruited from their respective universities based on recommendations from their respective universities to Huawei Indonesia.
For the final selection stage, Huawei challenged them to create a short video detailing their profile and why they were the most deserving of the program.
From STEI-ITB, Ghazy Mahendra (21), an ITB Telecommunications Engineering student, also participated.
Other students are Fariz Azhar Abdillah (21), a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Indonesia; Kadek Dwi Pradnyana (21), a UI student majoring in Digital Signal Processing at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, then Aini Novianty (20), a student of Informatics Engineering, Padjadjaran University, Bandung; Sarah Lasroma Manalu (24), a student of Electrical Engineering, 10 November Institute Surabaya (ITS); Usman Hakiki (20), a student of Multimedia Technology ITS; Danur Ilham Khoiruman (22), a student of Electrical Engineering, Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang; Kadek Gemilang Santiyuda (20), a student of Computer Science, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta; Arina Amalia (20), a student of Electrical Engineering-Vocational UGM; and Sabrina Chairunnisa (20), a student of Electrical Engineering, Telkom University.

They participated in workshops, visited Huawei's research center, and even got a close look at the production process of Huawei's ICT products. Previously, they spent a week in Beijing. In the capital of the People's Republic of China, they were invited to learn more about Chinese culture and traditions, including learning Chinese from instructors from Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). There, they also learned the art of Chinese calligraphy.
In the 2017 Seeds for the Future program, Indonesian participants joined students from three other countries: Australia, Türkiye, and Burkina Faso (Africa).
Huawei launched the Seeds for the Future program in 2008, with students from around the world participating in Huawei's business operations. The program aims to bridge the gap between the knowledge students gain on campus and real-world ICT practices, while also providing knowledge transfer from Huawei's global ICT professionals to students.
In this program, Huawei professionals also shared their experiences on how to manage a multinational company in the ICT field such as Huawei, including Huawei's contribution in the development of local ICT companies where Huawei runs its business in the country.
Each year, Huawei invites approximately 1,000 students to its headquarters to discuss future trends in the ICT industry and strategies for seizing existing opportunities. A total of 96,000 students from 96 countries have participated in the Seeds for the Future program.
Indonesian student participants in this program were recruited through the SmartGen program. Since 2013, a total of 80 students from 12 leading Indonesian universities (including polytechnics) have participated in the program.
