Simultaneous Safety Drill Exercises in All STEI ITB Ganesha and Jatinangor Buildings

On Friday, October 28, 2022, at approximately 10:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), a warning alarm sounded loudly in the area surrounding STEI ITB buildings: Labtek V, Labtek VIII, laboratory buildings, and the KOICA Jatinangor Building. Shortly thereafter, an alert was issued stating that an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale had occurred.

Occupants engaged in activities are asked to remain indoors during an earthquake. Self-rescue procedures include hiding in a safe place, such as under a table, and protecting themselves from head injuries (drop, cover, and hold on).

Meanwhile, a fire broke out at the PLN-ITB joint venture building, also managed by STEI ITB. After the fire alarm sounded, the building's occupants immediately evacuated to safety. An ITB fire truck was deployed to the scene. The truck swiftly extinguished the blaze.

The first aid team and floor captain swiftly provided evacuation instructions to the nearest assembly point. One victim suffered a broken bone during the incident. The victim was successfully evacuated by the K3G and first aid teams.

These incidents are not real events, but rather part of a simultaneous safety drill conducted by STEI ITB. This activity is mandatory for all members of the STEI ITB building, without exception. The drill's scope includes earthquake and fire simulations.

After the safety drill process is complete and the K3G team provides instructions, the building occupants are invited to return and continue their activities.

Menurut salah satu Koordinator K3G STEI ITB, Habibur Muhaimin S.T., M.Sc.Safety drills need to be conducted regularly to build awareness about workplace safety. Disasters often strike unexpectedly, so awareness needs to be built through training so that when an actual incident occurs, we can be better prepared.
