2012 National Robot Contest: Indonesia's Smart Robot Battle

In order to present information about the National Robot Contest, ITB as the organizing committee held press conference on Thursday (21/06/12). The event held at the ITB CCAR Building was attended by teams from universities in Bandung including ITT (Telkom Institute of Technology), POLBAN (Bandung State Polytechnic), Maranatha University, UPI (Indonesian Education University), and ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology). The discussion agenda for the competition which will be held on Saturday and Sunday (30/06/12-01/07/12) at Sasana Budaya Ganesha ITB was interesting because it was highlighted by robot demonstrations by the teams.

"In this contest, robot lovers from all universities in Indonesia will come and compete to show off their robot intelligence," said Dr. Kusprasapta Mutijarsa (School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics ITB) as the Chair of the Committee. This prestigious robot contest will compete in various competition categories divided into four divisions, namely the KRI (Indonesian Robot Contest) division, the KRCI (Indonesian Intelligent Robot Contest) Fire Extinguisher division, the RSHL (RoboSoccer Humanoid League) division, and the KRSI (Indonesian Art Robot Contest) division.

To earn a ticket to participate in this national contest, all teams must compete at their regional level. Regional competitions are held in five regions: Regional I Sumatra, Regional II West Java, Regional III Central Java, Regional IV East Java, and Regional V Eastern Region. "The first, second, and third place winners, along with potential teams, are eligible to earn tickets to the national competition," he added. Dr. Kusprasapta Mutijarsa.

Ninety-four teams from universities across Indonesia were successfully selected and will compete in this robot "enthusiast" competition. Twenty-four teams will compete for the KRI title, 23 for the wheeled fire extinguisher, 14 for the legged fire extinguisher, and 17 for the RSHL.

Competing for International Tickets

Participants in the KRI division will be challenged to create an integrated robot system that can complete a specific mission. The winner of this contest will become the Indonesian delegate in the international robot contest, ABU Robocon in Hong Kong, China in August 2012. The theme of this year's KRI is "Grebeg Berkah Kedamai dan Kesejahteraan" adapting the ABU Robocon theme "Pen On Dai Gat". 24 teams will compete to win the title in this division.

In addition to the KRI division, the winner of the KRCI division also has the opportunity to participate in the Trinity College Fire-Fighting Home Robot Contest TCFFHRC 2013 in Connecticut, United States. The KRCI Fire Fighting Robot Contest pits 23 legged robots and 14 wheeled robots against each other to complete a firefighting mission. The winner of the KRCI RSHL also has the opportunity to win an international ticket to the 2013 RoboCup competition. This category will feature a 3 on 3 robot showdown on a green field.

The National Robotics Competition, which will be held at Sasana Budaya Ganesha on Saturday and Sunday (June 30, 2012-July 1, 2012), will also feature a Technology Exhibition and Culinary Zone. The exhibition will showcase the latest technologies in robotics, telecommunications, electronics, and more. This is to delight team supporters who come from out of town and even across the island to support their teams.
