ITB at Gemastik 2012
Gemastik is one of the national ICT competitions that is quite popular. prestigious among ICT universities in Indonesia. Prestigious because the organizer is DIKTI, and the judges are from various universities and ICT practitioners. Prestigious perhaps because the prizes are quite attractive, 11 million for 1st place, 8 million for 2nd place, and 5.5 million for 3rd place. With 9 categories in Gemastik 2012 this time, the prize fund is close to 250 million.
In 2012, the organization was handed over to ITB. ITB appointed STEI and then STEI asked Mrs. Putri Saptawati (IF 84) as the committee chair. Mrs. Putri then formed a committee team that was entirely IF lecturers. Mr. Saiful Akbar (IF 92), Mr. Ahmad Imam (IF 92), Mrs. Ulfa (IF 94), Mrs. Dessi (IF 98), Mr. Yudis (IF 98), Mrs. Yani (IF 8x), Mrs. Cia (IF 8x), Mrs. Fazat (IF 97), Fajar (IF 03), Peb (IF 02), Ghifary (IF 05), Mrs. Harlili, Mrs. Christine, and Mrs. Hira became the Gemastik 2012 committee. In addition, many IF and STI students were also part of the committee, including the Dongskar Pedongi team which was the defending champion of the programming competition in Gemastik 2011.
Suasana Pembukaan
Preparations for the Gemastik competition have been underway for over six months. From administration, creating the Gemastik website and database, preparing questions, coordinating with the jury, DIKTI, and ITB headquarters, to preparing the event on the day (accommodation, etc.), all were done amidst busy lectures and other activities. The Gemastik committee has carried out its various duties responsibly. Coming home late, often as late as 1 a.m., has become a routine, especially in the final month.
approaching the big day. Something that really needs to be appreciated by all parties.
The implementation of Gemastik 2012 was relatively safe because it was staffed by the best lecturers from IF. But on the other hand, the participation of the ITB team in Gemastik became somewhat difficult because the number of lecturers available as team supervisors was reduced. Although HMIF had begun to raise programs to encourage student participation in Gemastik 2012, but approaching the registration day, there were still teams that did not have supervisors. HMIF itself had done various things to support the victory of the ITB team in Gemastik 2012. Without any financial assistance from anywhere, HMIF held various trainings among themselves for various competition categories in Gemastik 2012. This was a very great spirit from the students, and it is very much worthy of appreciation.
The enthusiasm wasn't limited to the students, but also spread to the team's supervisors. From the moment the idea was formulated and the proposal was drafted, numerous meetings took place between the student teams and their supervisors. Mr. Adi Mulyanto (IF 89), Mr. Rinaldi (IF 8x), Mrs. Masayu (IF 94), Mr. Windy (IF 82), and I are examples of some of the supervisors involved in Gemastik 2012. The supervisors acted as if they were providing final assignment guidance for the ITB Gemastik teams this time. With a limited number of supervisors, each supervisor was allocated more than 10 student teams. In total, there were around 100 student teams (across all categories) from ITB participating in Gemastik 2012. 100 is quite a large number, but still far from the teams from ITS.
(for example) which number more than 200 teams.
Another source of encouragement came from alumni outside the campus. Here, the alumni were willing to serve as resource persons, providing encouragement, motivation, and presentations. Although contacted suddenly, the alumni immediately expressed their willingness to serve as resource persons. The ITB Student Organization (LK) also did not remain silent. It was recorded that the LK held two meetings leading up to the semifinals and finals to provide input to the ITB teams that reached the semifinals and finals of Gemastik 2012.
Programming Competition Atmosphere
On Tuesday afternoon, October 9, 2012, participants from various other universities began arriving at Labtek V to re-register. In fact, during the closing ceremony, some participants stated that their teams had arrived since Saturday. This demonstrated the enthusiasm of participants from various universities in Indonesia in participating in Gemastik 2012. On Wednesday and Thursday, October 10 and 11, 2012, the final of Gemastik 2012 was held at Labtek V.
Most competitions cannot be witnessed by supervisors, so they can only observe the judging process from the participants. Only programming and network security competitions can be monitored externally. Several types of finals are held at Gemastik. For product types like web design, games, or apps, the finals are conducted like a final project exam, where participants give presentations and the judges then ask questions.
For programming, network security, and data mining, participants are given several problems and must provide solutions within a certain time frame. In addition to data miningParticipants had to give a presentation on their chosen technique for answering the questions. Interestingly, the questions posed could be so intimidating that some ITB students, already convinced they would lose, ended up not attending the closing ceremony.
Thursday night, west hall, the closing night of Gemastik 2012. Every university was already wearing their university t-shirts or jackets. UI's motto with "yellow ITB" was proven by the use of UI yellow jackets with a total of around 40 students. ITS came in red. So did IT Telkom and other universities. The judges also wore their Gemastik shirts, green and blue, including the dean of STEI, Mr. Dwi (IF 8x) and Mr. Jaka. As for the ITB team, perhaps because it was held at ITB, so not all students brought ITB jackets.
It was a joy to attend the closing night of Gemastik 2012, hearing the cheers as each winner's name was announced for each category. The minutes seemed to drag on, filled with anticipation after months of hard work from each participant. The pride of each participant was palpable when the winners were announced. Despite some disappointment, each participant had personally triumphed through their experience and hard work. I personally clapped my hands as loudly as I could each time an ITB student was announced as a winner. I wanted to show how proud I was of every ITB student who participated in the 2012 Gemastik competition.
Kemeriahan Penutupan
Yudha Wastu Prawira emerged as the first name from IF, as the second place winner in the writing competition. Then in the data mining competition, two teams from IF came in second and third place: Team Yosef and Timo and Team Septu, Novan, and Yudha. Next, during the application development competition, I was a little hopeful because there were actually three IF teams that had made it to the finals, but it just wasn't my luck, it wasn't my time to win. When the announcement of the development competition... .the Cronus team (Alfian and Mahar) managed to become the 1st place. It was truly beyond prediction considering Alfian's statement after participating in the final about the questions from the judges. Even when the Web Design Competition was announced, I had time to say to Pandu (SBM that the important thing was that they had won, because they had entered the final. Pandu nodded with a smile. But then the one who was called as the 1st place winner was the MotherLode team, the team of Pandu and Hasby. Two gold medals in ITB plus one gold medal in network security won by Electrical Engineering students gave ITB the overall championship victory in Gemastik 2012. This was also beyond prediction because at the beginning when the live score for the programming competition, the ITB team was far below the other teams. A feeling of emotion and pride filled my heart as one of the educational people at ITB.
I hope this Gemastik moment will be one that the participating students will remember and then become a driving force for future achievements.
For God, Nation and Alma Mater!
