In order to develop and disseminate informatics sciences in Indonesia and the world in general, especially in the field of software and data engineering, the Software and Data Engineering Research Group, Bandung Institute of Technology (KK-RPLD ITB) held an international conference entitled "International Conference on Data and Software Engineering 2014" or abbreviated as ICoDSE 2014 on November 26-27, 2014, located in the East Hall of Bandung Institute of Technology, Jl. Ganesha 10 Bandung 4013.

ICoDSE 2014 is intended as a gathering place for researchers and professionals in the field of software and data engineering to present and discuss the results and outputs of high-quality research in related fields. ICoDSE 2014 aims to facilitate multidisciplinary ideas in the field of software and data engineering, thereby increasing the integration of research and development in the related fields.

Opened by the Vice Rector for Communication, Partnership, and Alumni (WRKMA), Prof.Ir. Hasanuddin Z. Abidin, M.Sc., Ph.D, ICoDSE presenting 3 main speakers from 3 countries namely Indonesia, Austria, and Australia. Adi Sasono from Coop Indonesia acted as the first speaker with the theme “Information is Power: for What and for Whom”, after previously signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Coop Indonesia and ITB. The event continued with the next main speaker from Johannes Kepler University of Linz, Austria, Prof. Josef Küng, who presented the topic “Trends and Techniques in Big Data Research”. On the second day, the main speaker from La Trobe University, Australia, Dr. Richard Lai, presented the topic “Educating Students for Advancing Software Engineering Practices and Researches”.

In addition to the three main speakers, there were also presenters from 68 papers that had been accepted by the ICoDSE 2014 committee after undergoing a strict review process from 130 papers sent by participants from various countries, including India, Malaysia, England, Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, England, Bangladesh, and from Indonesia itself.

In addition to the main event in the form of an international conference, ICoDSE 2014 also presents a special session for S3 students in the field of software and data engineering who are learning to conduct research and develop scientific networks, through the International Doctoral Symposium on Data and Software Engineering (IDoDSE 2014). This Doctoral Symposium event was attended by 13 postgraduate students from within the country who presented their proposals and research results through posters and presentations, and had the opportunity to obtain input from experts in the field of software and data engineering for further research development in the international scope.

The general chairman of ICoDSE 2014, Dr. Bayu Hendradjaya , said that the Software and Data Engineering Research Group ITB through this conference intends to develop science in the field of software and data engineering to the international level, with ITB as the driving force. Dr. Bayu added that KK RPLD is also ready in efforts to assist the Indonesian government in the context of data processing and software development in the maritime, food, and energy sectors.

ICoDSE is held thanks to the collaboration between the Software and Data Engineering Research Group ITB as the main organizer supported by Vienna University Technology, Austria and ASEA Uninet (Austrian – South-East Asian Academic University Network) and sponsored by PT Telkom Indonesia, Formen Galeri Le’laki, and Suitmedia.
