Dekanat Ikut Resmikan Jaringan FO Jalur Ganesha-Jatinangor Via Video Conference
Once again, ITB has made a breakthrough in the world of information technology-based education. This is evident in the Inauguration of the Fiber Optic Network (FO) Construction Along ITB Ganesha-ITB Jatinangor. The inauguration was officiated by the Rector of ITB, Prof. Akhmaloka. This event was held at the Cyber Security R&D Center Building of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics ITB Jatinangor on Friday, 02/05/2014. This Fiber Optic Network was built primarily to facilitate communication between ITB Ganesha and ITB Jatinangor.
The construction of the Fiber Optic Network, which was completed in early 2014, was motivated by ITB itself as an engineering institution that strongly supports the development of information systems and networks for higher education. Basically, the distance between Bandung and Jatinangor does not need to be a reason or fear for students for delays in information. "Now there is no longer such a thing as ITB Ganesha or ITB Jatinangor, there is only the ITB campus," said Prof. Akhmaloka at the inauguration ceremony. Although the ITB Jatinangor Campus is still relatively new, access to information to facilitate students remains paramount.
Penghubung Ganesha-Jatinangor
Until now, ICT services have been connected in several ITB Jatinangor buildings, including the Rectorate Building, Library, and Building. Cyber Security R&D CenterBuilding A, Building B, Building C. Labtek 1B, Dormitory A, Dormitory B, and Mektan. The construction of Fiber Optic Network connectivity itself provides many benefits for ITB Jatinangor. These benefits include collaboration on library content, sharing student activities, virtual or distance classes, high-speed internet access through Ai3 accounts, and others. Moreover, this network is very useful for ITB Jatinangor students who have to take classes at Ganesha. This is because there is a virtual class service, where the teaching and learning process can be carried out in different places.
“Even though the ITB Hotspot service has not yet reached the classroom, the service Hotspot "ITB's dormitory remains satisfactory. Not only at Ganesha, but also in Jatinangor, we have access to high-speed internet. It's certainly very useful for academic matters," said M. Fahmi Irsan (Forestry Engineering 2012).
Kolaborasi Antar Institusi
This fiber optic network, in addition to connecting ITB Ganesha and Jatinangor, also connects several educational institutions and government agencies. Some of the educational institutions covered include UNPAD, Widyatama University, UIN, IKOPIN, IPDN, Sanggah Buana University, STMIK Jabar, and others. Meanwhile, the government institutions covered include the Bandung Regional Government, Bandung Regency Government, Sumedang Regency Government, and private institutions.
With the ITB Fiber Optic Network reaching several institutions, it is hoped that collaborations with various parties will be fostered. These include sharing local content (library and journal content), sharing international journals, or accessing... Online Library, Parallel Class or Virtual Class, Virtual Laboratory, Online Training and Certification, TV Edukasi Digital, Integration HPC, etc.
After the inauguration, a trial was conducted video conference. The invited guests who attended were connected via video conference with several faculties at Ganesha, namely STEI, FTI, FITB, FTMD, FTTM as well as Padjajaran University and Keio University, Japan.

Representatives from STEI were the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Ir. Dwi H. Widyantoro, M.Sc., Ph.D., and the Vice Dean for Resources, Dr. Ir. Jaka Sembiring, M.Eng.
In addition, a virtual class from Building C ITB Jatinangor was also shown, which showed students taking part in a presentation class.
