Armed with Years of Struggle, the Ainge ST Team Won 3rd Place in the Asia Pacific Region & Southeast Peninsula and Best National at the 2017 ACM-ICPC
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – There is no easy struggle. Behind the successive victories displayed before the public eye, there are actually mountains of failures that have been overcome and dreams that have not been achieved. After going through various ups and downs for years, finally the Ainge ST team succeeded in winning 3rd place and Best National in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) in the Asia Pacific & South East Peninsula Region in 2017. The contest, which was attended by 80 teams from Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, China, and others, was held at Binus University, Jakarta on Sunday (11/14/17). Once again, Luqman Arifin Siswanto (Informatics Engineering 2013), Wiwit Rifa'i (Informatics Engineering 2013), and Alfonsus Raditya Arsadjaja (Informatics Engineering 2014) brought honor to ITB's name on the international and national stage.
Years of hard work full of dedication
Their story begins in 2013, when Luqman and Wiwit were just starting to explore the world of simple programming. Although clearly behind their peers, their lack of knowledge at the time didn't stop them from exploring on their own. They didn't let their low self-esteem get in the way. Initially, they failed and fell repeatedly. However, they pushed aside every obstacle and doubt that came their way, and persistently pursued their passion.
Meanwhile, Raditya began developing his interest in Competitive Programming (CP) in high school. From training for the National Science Olympiad (OSN), high school-level competitions, to online judging sites for independent practice, Raditya has been enjoying and studying it since a long time ago. He continued his studies in college, where he continuously studied various algorithms, data structures, and logic problems.
Eventually, in this competition, Luqman, Wiwit, and Raditya joined forces and formed Ainge ST. Together, they defeated 77 other strong teams and advanced to become the best team in Indonesia, achieving 3rd place in the Asia Pacific Southeast Peninsula.
Rooted in Interest, Fruitful in Work
Cultivating the path to your dreams must be based on perseverance and hard work. No dream can be achieved without struggle. "First, determine what you want to achieve during college, and prioritize it. Then, persevere and fight for that dream. Don't be discouraged by your lack of knowledge, because everyone has experienced the same thing when just starting out. Use it as motivation to know that you too can be like them, and perhaps even more. Determine how much effort and sacrifice you can put into achieving your goals, so you don't regret later because you still haven't achieved them, simply because you didn't put in enough effort and sacrifice," said Wiwit.
