Teach How to Become an Entrepreneur at the Technopreneurship Seminar
Universities not only produce noble people but also produce agent of change, said Prof. Dr. Ir. Suhono H. Supangkat as the chairman of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (LPIK) ITB and also a Lecturer at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics on Monday (23/06/2014) at the Technopreneurship Seminar. The activity, initiated by LPIK ITB and the Blackberry Innovation Center (BBIC) ITB and supported by the Technoentrepreneur Club (TEC) ITB, had the theme "Start your journey as an entrepreneur". Held in the West Hall of ITB, the seminar presented speakers who are experts in the world of entrepreneurship, namely William E. Wijaya (Regional SEA Manager Fenox Venture Capital), Jeffrey Paine (Founding Partner of Golden Gate Ventures), Betti Alisjahbana (Founder of Quantum Business International), and Dr. Budi Rahardjo (Lecturer, entrepreneur, and expert in the field of information and network security).
As agents of change, students are naturally closely connected to technology and innovation. The combination of entrepreneurial activities and innovation will foster entrepreneurship. Many students struggle with capital when starting a business. Insufficient capital is not a reason not to start a business. Its not about money but its about network and experience,” said Wiliam as the first speaker.
William also explained how students can build a strong start to a successful business. These include attending entrepreneurial schools and joining entrepreneur club, become a teaching assistant or mentor, take part in business competitions, and become a problem solver. “What differentiates ordinary businessmen from entrepreneurs is attitude, how do we have value creation mindset,” tambah Wiliam.
Sometimes there are many bad reasons to become an entrepreneur. According to Jeffrey, four bad reasons to become an entrepreneur are money, power, boredom, and flex time. “The real reason is you want something to exist in the world,"," said Jeffrey. "Actually, most students are geniuses, they just lack the courage. Start thinking futuristically if you want to be a successful entrepreneur, because out of 20 ideas that come up, there will be 3 good ones that can be implemented."Start something supersmall and watch potential co-founders,” tutup Jeffrey.
