The JOINT Team Won Second Place in the 2018 IMERI Open Innovation Competition
The JOINT team from the STEI ITB Postgraduate Program proved its capabilities after becoming the second winner in the Open Innovation 2018 event, an interdisciplinary innovation competition, at the end of April 2018.
Open Innovation (OI) is an interdisciplinary innovation competition held by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia in collaboration with the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI).
This competition involves various multidisciplinary disciplines to apply creative technology-based ideas into innovative products in the form of concepts or prototypes in the form of software or hardware in the health sector which are expected to provide solutions to the problems faced by IMERI clusters.
This year, the JOINT Team from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) had the opportunity to represent the Institute in the national grand final of the OI-IMERI competition. After passing the initial online selection, the JOINT team qualified for the national grand final in Jakarta. The OI-IMERI committee previously announced the official selection results via email.
The IMERI Open Innovation (OI) grand final was held in Jakarta on April 19-21, 2018. The grand final was attended by 25 top teams selected after a series of online selections. The JOINT team competed in the grand final with a product called a robotic stroke therapy device for the feet and hands based on an EEG sensor.
The OI-IMERI competition was held for two days, where on the first day several seminars/talk shows were held with various topics and speakers, the IMERI FK-UI birthday celebration, and continued with the 2nd Open Innovation Participant Brainstorming activity with facilitators (Preparation for finalization of innovation products).
On the second day of judging, each team was given the opportunity to present and demonstrate their innovative work. Following the presentations and judging, the announcement was made. The JOINT team was crowned second place winner with their innovative EEG sensor-based robotic stroke therapy device for the legs and arms.
The JOINT team is led by Rudi Setiawan (23217029, Master of Electrical Engineering), Ali Ahmad Ghifari (23217, Master of Electrical Engineering), and Odilia Valentine (23217092, Master of Electrical Engineering). The innovation offered by the JOINT team at this event is to create a prototype of a robotic stroke therapy aid for the legs and hands based on EEG sensors.
This stroke therapy device is still a prototype. It adopts the principle of a stationary bicycle, with developments that utilize an EEG sensor as the central control center. EEG (electroencephalography) is an electrophysiological monitoring system that records electrical activity in the brain.
