Alumni STEI dibalik Satelit BRI
PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) will soon become the only bank in the world to own a satellite. The BRI satellite is scheduled to launch into space on June 8 at 20:30 UTC, or June 9, 2020, Indonesian time.
To prepare and operate the satellite, named BRIsat, BRI has partnered with several diaspora to participate in the preparation for this historic event and to oversee the continued operation of BRIsat following its handover from Space Systems/Loral, LLC (SSL) in Palo Alto, California, USA. Two STEI alumni are leaders of the BRIsat team. Here are their brief profiles.
Meiditomo Sutyarjoko
Meiditomo Sutyarjoko was entrusted to be the lead consultant for the BRIsat project. Born on May 28, 1964, Meiditomo completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, elective B (Telecommunication Engineering) from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1983, a master's degree from the University of Southern California, and a doctorate from the University of Indonesia. In 1989, he was selected as one of the first seven Indonesians from PT Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN) to study satellite technology at Hughes Space and Communication Inc. in California. This is one of the world's leading satellite companies. That's where Meiditomo's adventure began. At the company, which is now part of Boeing Space System (BSS), Meiditomo learned about satellite design, system integration, ground testing, rocket launches, in-orbit testing, and handovers to customers.
It is not surprising that from 1989 to 2015, many satellites have been monitored, including Aussat B1, Aussat B2, Astra 1C, Astra 1D, Inmarsat III, Galaxy III, Galaxy V, Galaxy VI, Palapa C1, Palapa C2, Garuda 1, S2M-1, Arabsat, ABS-1, ABS-2, ABS-3, ABS-7, ABS-4, ABS-6, and BRIsat.
He also has experience in spectrum management at international conferences, including as chairman and head of delegation in operator review meetings for L-Band held from 2003 to 2009 and as a member of delegation in conferences held by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity and ITU.
Omar Isnawan
Omar Isnawan is a Satellite Consultant (Payload and Communications) for BRIsat. He was born on April 23, 1967, and completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1990 and his Master of Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. He currently serves as Director of Satellite Engineering at Asia Broadcast Satellite. He has worked as a Satellite Engineer for over six years. receiver design, satellite test engineer. system engineer at the satellite manufacturing plant, Hughes Space & Communication, El Segundo, California, United States.
He then worked for a carrier mobile satellite for seven years at Asia Cellular Satellite. Two of those years were involved in the procurement of the ACeS satellite, and then in 2006 as lead specialist at Inmarsat Indonesia, also involved in development mobile satellite handheld user terminal.
In 2011, Omar joined Asia Broadcast Satellite, one of the global satellite operators in Hong Kong and was in charge of the field of satellite engineering & operation to assist the operations division in Subic Bay, Philippines and the engineering & procurement division in Washington DC, United States, in the procurement of the ABS-2, ABS-3A, and ABS-2A satellites.
