Strengthening Their Existence, ITB Students Represent Indonesia Again for CERN
ITB is once again contributing to the world of international nuclear academia and research. This time, Muhammad Fadhil Ginting (Electrical Engineering 2013) and I Made Gita Narendra Kumara (Electrical Engineering 2013) will be interning at ITB. Conseil Européene pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN) or the European Organization for Nuclear Research in a series of eventsCERN Summer Student Program (CSSP). The two will depart for the world's central particle accelerator laboratory in Geneva, on the border between Switzerland and France. Along with 250 participants from various countries, the two Electrical Engineering students will represent Indonesia to begin the program on Monday (June 13, 2016).
Every year CERN opens a CSSP internship program which can be participated in by candidates from other countries.nonmember, These are countries that do not yet have a cooperation agreement between CERN and their research institutions. The first month of the program will consist of lectures, followed by research projects for the final month. The selection process, conducted by the European nuclear research organization, is a one-step process, involving registration via a form. online which contains a transcript of grades, curriculum vitae (CV), essay, and recommendations from two lecturers, especially professors.
In CERN's physics-intensive research field, Fadhil and Rendra will work on a project on instrumentation and high-voltage transmission in particle colliders. The rest are engineers from various disciplines such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and others whose job is to support the progress of research at CERN.
Preparation for Registration to CERN
Rendra admitted that he did not encounter any significant difficulties in preparing his registration. Outstanding Students for The World (OSTW) 2014, who won a bronze medal at the 44th International Physics Olympiad in Denmark, feels that careful planning is key to writing an essay. "It's best to make it seem like you already know what you're aiming for at the end. For example, I wrote that I wanted to conduct research in the field of electronics "I worked at CERN and with scientists from all over the world," Rendra explained. Because CERN is a research-focused institution, Rendra felt the need to emphasize his scientific publication experience on his CV. He included his experience participating in International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) 2012 and Student Creativity Week (PKM).
Fadhil, who occupies the position runner-up 2 with his team in Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU RoboCon) 2015, he sought a lot of guidance from his seniors who had already landed in Switzerland. He wrote his CV and essay based on examples from his seniors. "Try visiting CERN's website a lot, see what research topics are close to our field, then write honestly," added Fadhil. He feels that the essay serves to demonstrate the applicant's understanding of the target institution and the applicant's ability to work on the project that will be given later.

When asked about the skills that most support his current success, Rendra summarized them into three: critical analytical thinking, consistency, and mental management. "Don't be willing to accept something easily, but first digest it well," Rendra said. Rendra believes that the more consistent practice you do, the easier the work will feel. He also said, "If we relax without any burden and feel nothing to lose, all work will run smoothly”. Fadhil advised CERN enthusiasts to gather a lot of technical experience related to the science they want to study at CERN by participating in competitions or working on projects. Fadhil also advised prospective applicants not to be afraid to try first, “However, the opportunity is definitely there, so just prepare as much as possible”.
