ITB officially announces ABET internationally accredited study programs
Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Monday, September 12, 2011, officially announced the achievement of international accreditation for 2 study programs (prodi) at ITB, namely the Electrical Engineering study program - School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics and the Ocean Engineering study program - Faculty of Environmental and Civil Engineering. This announcement was made by holding a press conference in the Rapim A Room, Rectorate Building, Jl. Taman Sari no. 64 Bandung. On the occasion, it was attended by ITB leaders and representatives from the relevant faculties and study programs along with representatives of the ABET team of each faculty.
ABET is an accrediting body for study programs in applied science, computer science, engineering, and technology in the United States. As of 2010, ABET had accredited more than 3,256 study programs across 600 universities in various countries. ABET accredits study programs, not institutions. The importance of ABET's international accreditation is to improve the quality of education, especially graduates, so that the quality of graduates is recognized and able to compete with international standards. Furthermore, ABET-accredited graduates do not need to undergo matriculation again when continuing their studies abroad.
On that occasion, ITB Rector Prof. Akhmaloka also requested that all faculties and schools at ITB have at least one study program internationally accredited. This way, ITB's goal of becoming a World-Class University can be concretely demonstrated.
