Portable Vent-I Ventilator Passed Quality Test, Ready for Mass Production

BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com – Vent-I portable ventilator by Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Padjadjaran University (Unpad) and YPM Salman were declared to have passed the test on 21 April 2020. The ventilator passed the test of all test criteria in accordance with SNI IEC 60601-1 standards : 204: General Requirements for Basic Safety and Essential Performance and Rapidly Manufactured CPAP Systems, Document CPAP 001, Specification, MHRA, 2020.

“Vent-I has gone through a comprehensive product testing process by the Health Facilities Safety Facility (BPFK) Ministry of Health and has passed,” said the Public Communication team from the Vent-I developer, Hari Tjahjono in its release, Thursday (4/22/2020).

Vent-I is a breathing apparatus for patients who are still able to breathe on their own (Covid-19 patients on stage 2 clinical symptoms), not for ICU patients. Vent-I is claimed to be used easily by medical personnel. The tool has the main function of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). By passing this product test, Vent-I was declared safe to use as a non-invasive ventilator to help Covid-19 patients. Hari revealed, this tool can be immediately produced for social purposes, where Vent-I will be distributed free of charge to hospitals in need.

“For this social need, Vent-I will be produced around 300-500 according to the amount of donations that enter the Salman Charity House. “For production, cooperation with PT DI,” he said.

Furthermore, Vent-I will be used on patients according to medical indications, and its use will be escorted by the Indonesian Association of Anesthesiologists and Intensive Therapy Specialists (Perdatin) at designated hospitals. “As for commercial purposes involving buying and selling transactions, the marketing authorization is currently in the process of administration which is expected to be ready in the next few days,” Hari said.

The making of this Ventilator was initiated by Dr. Syarif Hidayat, ITB Electric Power Engineering Lecturer.
