From Labtek V, the Ainge ST Team Conquers the World in the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition 11.0
BANDUNG, itb.ac.id- ITB students continue to raise the flag of the red and white and the name of their alma mater in international competitions. This time, their success was achieved through the world-class programming competition, the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition 11.0, held by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE). In the competition, which was held on Saturday-Sunday (14-15/10/2017), three ITB players who joined the Ainge ST team, namely Luqman Arifin Siswanto (Informatics Engineering 2013), Wiwit Rifa'i (Informatics Engineering 2013), and Alfonsus Raditya Arsadjaja (Informatics Engineering 2014) managed to rank 4th out of 3350 participating university teams worldwide. The top five in the world came from Switzerland, China, the United States, Indonesia (ITB), and China. This extraordinary achievement elevates Indonesia's reputation to be on par with the world's developed countries in this prestigious annual tournament.
In the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition 11.0, teams of three students must solve 30 programming problems given every hour. The time limit for this online competition is 24 hours without a break. This competition tests participants' abilities in logical reasoning, algorithms, data structures, mathematics, and programming skills quickly and efficiently. Participants are asked to solve algorithmic problems using programs in C++/Java. The programs created must match the problem description provided and must meet the limits of execution time and memory used when the program is run. The created programs are then submitted for automatic testing by a testing machine with numerous test cases. If the program is correct according to the test results, the team will earn points.
After completing all the assigned problems, the points earned by the teams are totaled and then ranked. In the event of a tie, they are ranked based on the total time required to complete the tasks. The team with the faster time is ranked higher. The Ainge ST team, based in the Basic Laboratory 3 of Labtek V, achieved a perfect score on every problem, just like the first-place team. They only lost in the total time required to complete the problems.
This extraordinary achievement was not achieved without hard work. Almost every day, the Ainge ST team practiced programming on a website that provided algorithmic problems for practice. Every Saturday and Sunday, for at least five hours, the Ainge ST team honed their teamwork and strategy to optimize their performance. In addition to their persistent practice, their extensive experience in Competitive Programming (CP) competitions also strengthened the Ainge ST team. By frequently participating in similar competitions, both nationally and internationally, the Ainge ST team is familiar with and understands the requirements for competing in programming competitions.
The Ainge ST team always strives to bring honor to Indonesia and ITB on the international stage. They believe that everyone has their own unique path and abilities. Regardless of the field pursued, the key to success lies in hard work, focus, and dedication.
