Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that uses engineering techniques, scientific methods, and technology to address problems in biology and medicine and improve public health. Studying this interdisciplinary field requires a foundation in science and engineering.

This includes basic and advanced electronics and computing, anatomy and physiology, biomedical physics, biomedical transducers and instrumentation, and biomedical system design. Biomedical engineering research focuses on medical instrumentation, e-health and telemedicine, biomedical imaging and image processing, biomechanics, and medical rehabilitation.

The research areas of computer engineering focus on coding, cryptography and information protection, wireless communication and networking, compilers and operating systems, computational science and engineering, computer networks, mobile computing & distributed systems, computer systems (architecture, parallel processing, and dependencies), computer vision and robotics, integrated circuits, VLSI design, testing & CAD, and image, signal & speech processing.

The Control Systems and Computer Research Group (KK SKK) conducts research on the analysis, design, and implementation of control, computer, robotic, and intelligent systems, both as standalone systems and as integrated systems, such as embedded intelligent autonomous systems.

These systems play an important role in many applications, particularly where specific requirements must be met, including industrial processes, transportation systems, energy-conscious systems, infrastructure health monitoring, environmental conservation, defense and security systems, social media data analysis, and many others.

The research areas of electrical power engineering focus on generation systems (power plants and distributed systems, bioenergy, power electronics in distributed generation systems), power systems (computing, security, power quality, transmission and distribution automation & monitoring systems), power delivery (DSM, wide-area protection, reactive power management, FACTS, power economics, electricity business, electricity pricing, undersea cable technology), protection systems (materials and technology, electromagnetic compatibility, lightning protection technology), electrical equipment (instrumentation and measurement, field analysis of system equipment, high-voltage equipment diagnostics and maintenance), and high-voltage insulation materials and technologies.

Electronics research focuses on digital ICs, analog ICs, IC processing, RF ICs, device technology, embedded systems, and intelligent instrumentation systems. Research areas include electronic system architecture design, System on Chip (SoC), algorithm optimization for hardware implementation, VLSI design, software co-design, device design and implementation, and cognitive artificial intelligence instrumentation systems.

This research targets applications such as WiMax, 3GPP LTE, smart cards, security engines, low-power MIPS / RISC processor design, wireless sensor networks, nanowires, and sensors. It uses industry-standard design tools for hardware design and simulation. Some implementations use standard chips such as FPGAs, DSPs, and microprocessors. The group also has a small-scale cleanroom for developing experimental laboratory devices.

The research areas of informatics focus on search engines, cryptography, multimedia security, integrated messaging engines, knowledge engines, intelligent graphic engines, intelligent agents, natural language processing, text mining, computer vision, distributed computing systems, computer networks, computer network security, mobile processing, wireless management, next-generation networks, information systems, data compression, modeling and simulation, and numerical methods.

The research area of information technology focuses on information technology and its applications, cloud computing, social networking, digital signal processing, human-machine interfaces, stochastic systems, information theory, intelligent systems, IT governance, networking technology, optical communication technology, next-generation media, and robotic instrumentation.

The research areas of the Telecommunication Engineering Research Group (KK Teknik Telekomunikasi) focus on:

  1. Telematics and Services
  2. Telecommunication Networks and Security
  3. Fixed and Wireless Mobile Communication
