SEEI ITB Holds a Public Lecture on the Philosophy of AI Science: Strategies for Indonesia’s Digital Future

Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id – On 4 December 2024, the East Hall of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) hosted an in-depth discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) in a public lecture entitled “AI: Singularity, Hype or Reality and Strategies for Indonesia.” The event was organized by the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (SEEI) ITB and featured speakers from diverse backgrounds, enriching perspectives on AI development, its potential, challenges, and strategies relevant to Indonesia. ..

The Dean of SEEI ITB, Prof. Tutun Juhana, opened the event by emphasizing the importance of AI development that aligns with local needs and national values. “AI is not merely a technological tool, but part of the effort toward national digital independence,” he stated. .. 

The public lecture featured four expert speakers:

1. Arga M. Nugraha, Director of Digital & IT at Bank Rakyat Indonesia and Head of the KBUMN AI PMO, who discussed the implementation of AI for national digital transformation.
2. Agus Nggermanto, writer and educator, who explored the social impacts of AI and the role of philosophy in interpreting technological progress.
3. Budi Sulistyo, Senior Expert from Sharing Vision Indonesia, who presented an analysis of ethical challenges in AI development.
4. Dr. Dimitri Mahayana, a lecturer at SEEI ITB, who invited participants to explore AI strategies for Indonesia based on the MinMax paradigm.

The event, attended by students, academics, professionals, and the general public, proceeded interactively with a question-and-answer session discussing various issues, including ethical decision-making by AI and the need for skilled human resources.

The public lecture received wide media coverage, including from leading mainstream outlets such as Detik.com, Tribunnews.com, and Kompas.com. The topic was appreciated as an important step by SEEI ITB in encouraging critical as well as strategic discussions on AI.

With the success of this event, SEEI ITB once again demonstrated its commitment to leading technological innovation, addressing global challenges, and preparing Indonesia for a more independent and sustainable digital era.
