Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is a multidisciplinary field that involves various techniques, scientific methods, and technologies to solve problems in biology and medicine for the improvement of public health. Studying this interdisciplinary field requires foundational knowledge in both science and engineering. This includes basic and advanced electronics and computing, anatomy and physiology, biomedical physics, transducers and biomedical instrumentation, and biomedical system design. Research areas in biomedical engineering focus on medical instrumentation, e-health and telemedicine, biomedical imaging and image processing, as well as biomechanics and medical rehabilitation.

Computer Engineering Research Groups

The research areas of computer engineering focus on coding, cryptography and information protection, wireless communication and networking, compilers and operating systems, computational science and engineering, computer networks, mobile computing & distributed systems, computer systems (architecture, parallel processing, and dependencies), computer vision and robotics, integrated circuits, VLSI design, testing & CAD, and image, signal & speech processing.

Control Systems and Computers

The research field of the Control Systems and Computers Research Group (KK SKK) consists of the analysis, design, and implementation of systems in the areas of control, computers, robotics, and intelligent systems, either as standalone systems or integrated systems such as in embedded intelligent autonomy. These systems play an important role in many application areas, especially when a set of required specifications must be met, such as in industrial processes, transportation systems, energy-aware systems, infrastructure health monitoring, environmental preservation, defense and security systems, social media data analysis, and many others.

Power Engineering Research Groups

The research areas of electrical power engineering focus on generation systems (power plants and distributed systems, bioenergy, power electronics in distributed generation systems), power systems (computing, security, power quality, transmission and distribution automation & monitoring systems), power delivery (DSM, wide-area protection, reactive power management, FACTS, power economics, electricity business, electricity pricing, undersea cable technology), protection systems (materials and technology, electromagnetic compatibility, lightning protection technology), electrical equipment (instrumentation and measurement, field analysis of system equipment, high-voltage equipment diagnostics and maintenance), and high-voltage insulation materials and technologies.

Electronics Research Groups

The research area of electronics focuses on Digital ICs, Analog ICs, IC processing, RF ICs, Device Technology, Embedded Systems, and intelligent instrumentation systems. Research areas include the design of electronic system architectures, System on Chip (SoC), algorithm optimization for hardware implementation, VLSI design, Hardware-Software Co-design, Device Design and Implementation, and Cognitive Artificial Intelligence Instrumentation Systems. This research targets various applications such as WiMax, 3GPP LTE, Smart Cards, Security Engines, Low-Power MIPS/RISC Processor Design, Wireless Sensor Networks, Nano Cables, and sensors. The research utilizes industry-standard Design Tools for Hardware Design and Simulation. Some implementations use standard chips such as FPGAs, DSPs, and Microprocessors. This group also has a small-scale clean room to develop experimental laboratory devices.

Informatics

The research areas of informatics focus on search engines, cryptography, multimedia security, integrated messaging engines, knowledge engines, intelligent graphic engines, intelligent agents, natural language processing, text mining, computer vision, distributed computing systems, computer networks, computer network security, mobile processing, wireless management, next-generation networks, information systems, data compression, modeling and simulation, and numerical methods.

Information Technology Research Groups

The research area of information technology focuses on information technology and its applications, cloud computing, social networking, digital signal processing, human-machine interfaces, stochastic systems, information theory, intelligent systems, IT governance, networking technology, optical communication technology, next-generation media, and robotic instrumentation.

The RPLP Research Group focuses on developing new paradigms in software engineering, knowledge discovery and data mining, content management systems, mobile applications, process-based software artifacts & metrics, software project management tools, XML-based electronic financial reporting, source code documentation generators, web services, service-oriented architecture, service-oriented computing, human-based computing, and cloud computing.
