Prof. Suwarno earned his B.Sc. (1988) and M.Sc. (1991) from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. (1996) from Nagoya University, Japan. He has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering at ITB since 2010, specializing in Electrical Power Engineering, and a Senior Member of IEEE since 2017. Prof. Suwarno is also a Principal Professional Engineer (IPU) of PII Indonesia.

He received international recognition as one of the 2% most influential scientists in the world according to Stanford University (2021–2025). He served as Vice Dean of STEI (2006–2011), Dean of STEI (2011–2015), and Chair of the STEI Senate (2017–2024). He is currently the Chair of the Electrical Engineering Research Group at ITB and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal on Electrical Engineering and Informatics.
