Informatics

Ir. Afwarman Manaf, M.Sc., Ph.D., or familiarly known as Pak Awang, is a senior lecturer in the Informatics Expertise Group at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI), Bandung Institute of Technology, who has dedicated himself to the world of education and research for more than 35 years.

For the STEI ITB academic community, Mr. Awang's name is certainly familiar. He is known as a diligent educator, mentoring students with high dedication, developing informatics science, and actively participating in various academic activities and research collaborations.

Born in 1962, Dr. Afwarman Manaf studied for his undergraduate degree in Informatics Engineering at ITB and graduated in 1986. He completed his master's degree in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, Canada, and obtained his Doctorate (Ph.D.) from Monash University, Australia, with a specialization in Computer Systems Engineering.

As an Associate Professor and nationally certified lecturer, Dr. Afwarman Manaf is widely known as a dedicated educator and active researcher. During his career, he has supervised various final assignments and student theses, and has been involved in various research and community service activities, including the development of online-based systems and applications to access knowledge in the early days of technological development, including a search system for superior local products or commodities that are directly beneficial to the community, the development of knowledge-based systems and artificial intelligence for diagnostic purposes, his involvement in the establishment of higher education in Informatics in several cities in Indonesia, and various other contributions.

Dr. Afwarman Manaf is not just a lecturer in Informatics Engineering at ITB, but also an educator who encourages students to see education as a journey to discover the purpose of life. Amidst the dense technical material, he always inserts reflections on the purpose of learning, moral responsibility, and human values. With a calm, clear, and empathetic approach, he guides not only the mind but also shapes character. Knowledge for him is not only about technical skills, but also about becoming a person who thinks clearly, honestly, and is useful.

Now, at the end of his tenure as an active lecturer, Dr. Afwarman Manaf continues to demonstrate a strong passion for sharing knowledge and mentoring the younger generation. His commitment to education, integrity, and love of science make him a role model within the ITB academic community and the broader scientific community.
