STEI ITB and INPT’s Energy Conversion Research Lab Presentation
On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, the short course presentation by Prof. Maurice Fadel, ENSEEIHT – LAPLACE Laboratoire Plasma et Conversion d’Energie, Toulouse, France took place. According to Prof. Yanuarsyah Haroen, this program is part of ITB and INPT (Institute National Polytechnique de Toulouse) partnership since 2002, and has been extended in 2007 for 3 years ahead. This partnership covers 4 areas: Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. Several activities have been conducted, including Professor and Lecturer Visiting Programs in INPT and ITB (in 2004 and 2008); Doctoral research program for six months; Doctoral double degree program between ITB and INPT, where an ITB’s PhD student has been conducted joint-supervision PhD. research in Toulouse, France for 1.5 years. Some other plan is to develop a Master double degree program, where ITB’s master students would have to strengthen their French language first, since it is compulsory to obtain French language certificate before attending French classes in France.
This presentation, attended by students, mostly from Energy Conversion Lab, Electrical Engineering Research Group and control group in STEI, was about ‘Control of Synchronous Machine’, According to Prof Fadel, synchronous machine as the ‘queen of machines’ (in terms of motors) which is to be utilized in airplanes, actuators in industrial application and railways traction. Variety of technologies of this machine includes winding machine and PMSM (Permanent- Magnet Synchronous Motor).
In the presentation, Prof. Fadel has shown the basic modeling and controlling of synchronous machine, including the simulation and experimental result. He has also presented the works done by him in his research group which mostly concern about boosting the performance of PMSM drive system. He also introduced several new methods to improve the performance of drive system and to have a simpler analysis in the system.
According to Prof. Yanuarsyah Haroen, hopefully the long-term partnership between ITB and INPT, including ENSEEIHT&LAPLACE Research Lab could also strengthen the Energy Conversion researches in STEI.
