STEI & Ajou’s Specialized IT Education Program

On Tuesday, February 19, 2008, presentation about Ajou University’s special program, from Prof. Kim & his team, and Dr. Armein Z.R. Langi (Lecturer and Member of Information Technology Research Group in STEI) was given in STEI’s Multimedia room.

The presentation was about Specialized IT Education Program, a six-month invitation program to Ajou University, provided to international undergraduate students and those who have completed undergraduate degree. The program’s purpose is to provide an internationally comparative training/advance-practical-education to be IT experts. The program consists of Korean and English courses: (1) two special intensive courses, which can be chosen from six courses: two courses are Electronics-related, two courses are Computer Science-related, and two other courses are (Multi)Media-related; (2) project-team oriented assignment: Embedded Mobile Software-related; and (3) intensive IT/Technical English. This program has been provided from 2nd semester of 2003 to 2006, with several US IT Experts invited as Lecturers.

The applicants to be elected and attend this program, is encourage to apply to Ajou Graduate Schools, after this program.

According to Ajou’s website : http://www.ajou.ac.kr/english/ajou/ajou1_01.jsp, Ajou is a relatively new university, founded in 1973, with eight colleges for undergraduate students, including College of Engineering, College of Information Technology (which offers this program), and College of Medicine. For graduate students, there are six Schools/Interdisciplinary Programs, including School of Engineering, School of Information Technology and School of Medicine. Ajou University is located in Suwon in South Korea, the city where the headquarter office of Samsung Electronics, the world’s 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer (announced in 2007), is located.

According to Dr. Armein explanation, this program would start in September this year, but if there are 3-5 applicants accepted in this program, it could start sooner, April this year. Information about this program can be accessed from http://pptik.itb.ac.id/ajou.
