What is Telecommunication Engineering?
The telecommunications engineering program is an interdisciplinary program. This requires a mix of knowledge from electrical engineering, computer science as well as economics and management fields. Sub-fields of telecommunications engineering include fault tolerant computing, digital signal processing, digital communications, modulation and coding, electromagnetic-wave propagation, fiber and integrated optics, lasers, wireless communications, mobile IP, wireless multimedia, DWDM networks, QoS assurance protocols, network design and optimization, telecommunication software, performance of systems, adhoc and PCS wireless networks, network security, high-speed protocols and many more.
An Overview of Telecommunication Engineering Research Group
TESRG is a scientific and research group under the School of Electrical and Informatics Engineering (STEI) of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), where faculties with common interests and goals in the field of telecommunications engineering join together. The TESRG was formed as a consequence of the university’s reform to become an independent body, reducing support from the government.
Historically, after the publication of seminar work by C. Shannon, the development of “Mathematical Communication Theory” in 1948 and the progress of microelectronics and computers, science and telecommunications technology was so rapid. Nowadays, it is moving towards the convergence of computer and communication networks. It is therefore essential to form a scientific and research group in this field. TESRG concentrate on the generation, processing, delivery and dissemination of information, which is a strategic area in the information age.
TESRG has three tasks: education, research and community services related to telecommunications. This site is intended to provide information related to TESRG and its activities, to provide valuable information for the academic community and for the general public as well.
