Ongki Kurniawan, ITB Electrical Engineering alumni who becomes Managing Director of GrabPay
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Grab officially announces that former boss Line, Ongki Kurniawan, now officially serves as Managing Director of GrabPay Indonesia.
Grab said Ongki’s appointment is expected to help GrabPay accelerate Kudo’s integration with Grab, build strong partnerships across the entire ecosystem, and expand Kudo’s online marketplace. Previously, Grab has acquired Kudo as one of the strategies to widen Grabpay in Indonesia.
“We are pleased with Ongki’s presence to develop GrabPay in Indonesia and accelerate financial inclusion for Indonesians.” Indonesia’s unique and extensive market requires world-class expertise and we believe that Ongki’s experience that includes telecommunications, payments, social media and e-commerce will strengthen local management for the Indonesian team, “said Jason Thompson, Head of GrabPay, through a written statement received by CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (18/9).
As part of the leadership team in Indonesia, Ongki will be directly under Jason Thompson, Head of GrabPay. Meanwhile, Grab Indonesia is still led by Ridzki Kramadibrata as Managing Director.
Ongki position as Managing Director parallel to Ridzki as Managing Director of Grab Indonesia. “Yes parallel, and GrabPay is still in one Grab umbrella, not a different entity,” explained spokesman Grab Indonesia, when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (18/9).
Ongki alone will work with 150 local engineers at R & D Grab centers, as well as an extensive network of partners to build payment solutions for consumers and UKM Indonesia. He is also expected to provide differentiation in Indonesia’s payment industry which is still fresh and fragmented.
“I have the same enthusiasm as Grab in helping Indonesians benefit from the digital economy through innovations created in Indonesia GrabPay’s vision to bring the entire society into the digital economy – from the middle class to small businesses across Indonesia – is one way of helping to realize Indonesia’s target of becoming the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia, and I hope to be part of the journey, “said Ongki.
Joining Ongki with the on-demand service application has actually been smelled since the beginning of September. At that time, Dewi Nuraini, Public Relations Manager of Grab Indonesia, has provided confirmation.
Grab itself seems to be serious about developing GrabPay. Beginning in November last year, Grab began to recruit Head of Grabpay, Jason Thompson and ten months later put the GrabPay Managing Director in Indonesia.
Before becoming a LINE Managing Director, Ongki’s career is long enough. He has served as Director / Chief Digital and Director / CTO XL Axiata, Principal at BCG, and Credit Analyst at Citi Corporate Banking Group. He has also served as a Board Member in Adknowledge Asia and Board Member Elevenia.
Ongki holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. He has completed all levels (1-3) of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program from The CFA Institute. (eks)
