2025 IEEE ICoDSE Held in Batam: Generative AI Meets Data and Software Engineering

The 2025 IEEE International Conference on Data and Software Engineering (ICoDSE) was successfully held in Batam, Kepulauan Riau, Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the eleven-year legacy of the conference. With the theme “Generative AI Meets Data and Software Engineering: Challenges and Innovations”, this year’s event spotlighted the latest developments in artificial intelligence and their transformative role in data and software systems.

Hosted at the Technopreneur Centre of Politeknik Negeri Batam, ICoDSE 2025 welcomed contributions from across the globe. The conference was jointly organized by the Knowledge and Software Engineering Research Group of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with Politeknik Negeri Batam, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia), and Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH). This hybrid-format event allowed participants to attend either in person or virtually, ensuring inclusivity and wide participation.

This year’s theme attracted 273 paper submissions from 17 countries, including Indonesia, Brazil, Germany, Canada, India, and the United States. After a rigorous peer-review process, 90 papers were accepted for presentation, including 4 papers in a special session on Generative AI for Education.

Two primary tracks anchored the program:

• Software Engineering Track: featuring discussions on agile methods, software architecture, quality assurance, service-oriented architecture, and cloud computing.
• Data Engineering Track: with topics on knowledge discovery, distributed databases, big data, information security, and semantic web technologies.

In addition to traditional topics, ICoDSE 2025 encouraged research aligned with emerging needs, including:

• Generative AI for simulation, anomaly detection, and creative design
• AutoML, Model Deployment, and MLOps
• XR/AR/VR applications for education and healthcare
• Digital twins and data privacy in AI systems

ICoDSE 2025 proudly hosted four distinguished keynote speakers from academia and industry:

Their sessions inspired engaging conversations among participants and highlighted the urgent need to combine software engineering rigor with AI experimentation in a trustworthy and ethical way.

Cultural Excursion and Community Engagement

In addition to technical activities, ICoDSE 2025 provided an opportunity for offline attendees to experience Batam’s unique charm. A city tour and group dinner fostered camaraderie among participants, culminating in a visit to the iconic Barelang Bridge, a symbol of inter-island connectivity in the Riau Archipelago.
