Hosted at the Technopreneur Centre of Politeknik Negeri Batam, ICoDSE 2025 welcomed contributions from across the globe. The conference was jointly organized by the Knowledge and Software Engineering Research Group of the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), in collaboration with Politeknik Negeri Batam, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Malaysia), and Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH). This hybrid-format event allowed participants to attend either in person or virtually, ensuring inclusivity and wide participation.

This year’s theme attracted 273 paper submissions from 17 countries, including Indonesia, Brazil, Germany, Canada, India, and the United States. After a rigorous peer-review process, 90 papers were accepted for presentation, including 4 papers in a special session on Generative AI for Education.

Two primary tracks anchored the program:

  • Software Engineering Track: featuring discussions on agile methods, software architecture, quality assurance, service-oriented architecture, and cloud computing.
  • Data Engineering Track: with topics on knowledge discovery, distributed databases, big data, information security, and semantic web technologies.

In addition to traditional topics, ICoDSE 2025 encouraged research aligned with emerging needs, including:

  • Generative AI for simulation, anomaly detection, and creative design
  • AutoML, Model Deployment, and MLOps
  • XR/AR/VR applications for education and healthcare
  • Digital twins and data privacy in AI systems

ICoDSE 2025 proudly hosted four distinguished keynote speakers from academia and industry:

    • Ir. Gusti Ayu Putri Saptawati, M.Comm. (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
Unveiling Hidden Patterns: The Power of Graph-based Machine Learning in Big Data
    • Dr. Marta Sabou (Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria)
Bridging Minds and Machines: Rethinking Knowledge Engineering in the Age of Neurosymbolic AI
    • Prof. Christoph Treude (Singapore Management University)
From Code Generation to Model Reuse: Getting Human-AI Interaction Right in Software Engineering
    • Shrinath Thube, B.E., M.S. (GenAI Architect, USA)
GenAI Observability: The Trust Layer for AI at Scale
Keynote Speakers

Their sessions inspired engaging conversations among participants and highlighted the urgent need to combine software engineering rigor with AI experimentation in a trustworthy and ethical way.

Workshop “Practical LLMs: Utilizing Language Models for Industry Challenges” Successfully Held at ICoDSE 2025

As part of the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Data and Software Engineering (ICoDSE), the hands-on workshop “Practical LLMs: Utilizing Language Models for Industry Challenges” was successfully conducted on September 20–21, 2025, at Technopark, Politeknik Negeri Batam.

The workshop was held in a hybrid format to accommodate high participant enthusiasm, attracting a total of 72 participants — from universities, industry professionals, and AI enthusiasts across Indonesia.

Speakers and Mentors

The workshop featured distinguished speakers and mentors from both academia and industry:

  • Hari Bagus Firdaus (Radya Labs)
  • Agung Dewandaru (STEI ITB)
  • Vaibhav Tupe (Equinix)
  • Austin Gabriel Pardosi (STEI ITB)
  • Juan Christopher Santoso (STEI ITB)

These experts shared their insights and guided participants through the fundamentals and advanced applications of Large Language Models (LLMs), highlighting practical implementations for real-world industrial challenges.

Sessions and Hands-on Activities

Over two days, participants engaged in a comprehensive series of lectures and hands-on sessions covering both conceptual and practical aspects.

Participants gained both theoretical understanding and practical experience in building LLM-based applications, implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and integrating multimodal AI workflows using n8n.

Acknowledgements

The organizing committee extends sincere appreciation to all sponsors and partners for their generous support: Paragon, IEEE Indonesia Section, Radya Labs, LAPI ITB, Politeknik Negeri Batam, and STEI ITB.

The success of this workshop reflects the growing collaboration between academia and industry in advancing the adoption and innovation of Large Language Models (LLMs) in Indonesia, paving the way for impactful real-world AI solutions.

Cultural Excursion and Community Engagement

In addition to technical activities, ICoDSE 2025 provided an opportunity for offline attendees to experience Batam’s unique charm. A city tour and group dinner fostered camaraderie among participants, culminating in a visit to the iconic Barelang Bridge, a symbol of inter-island connectivity in the Riau Archipelago.
