Year 1: 5G-to-Business (5G-to-B)

Focus: In our first year, we delved into the applications of 5G in business settings (5G-to-B), specifically exploring its potential in smart mining, smart warehousing, and smart campus environments.

Use Cases & Objectives:

  • Drone Inspection: We investigated how 5G can enable efficient and reliable drone inspections in industrial settings.
  • 5G-Accessed AR/VR Content: We explored the use of 5G to deliver immersive AR/VR experiences for training and operational purposes.
  • Smart Environmental Surveillance: We examined the role of 5G in creating sophisticated environmental monitoring systems.

Key Outcome: Our primary objective was to define specific network parameter criteria for successful 5G implementation across these diverse use cases. This research culminated in a set of deliverables outlining the necessary 5G network parameters for optimal performance in each vertical industry.

Impact: We believe these findings will be valuable to businesses and organizations looking to leverage 5G technology.

 

Year 2: 5G Infrastructure and Beyond (2024)

Focus: This year, our research expands into three key areas:

  • 5G Infrastructure Development and Automation: We are exploring innovative approaches to building and managing 5G infrastructure, including automation techniques for improved efficiency.
  • Diverse Applications of 5G: We continue to investigate new and exciting applications of 5G across various sectors.
  • Standardization of Use Case Development: We are actively engaged in developing and standardizing 5G use cases and applications to facilitate efficient and effective digital transformation across industries. This involves leveraging publicly available tools and platforms, and contributing to their development, to ensure interoperability and accelerate the adoption of 5G solutions.

Current Projects:

  • 5G Cloud Gaming: We are researching the potential of 5G to revolutionize cloud gaming experiences, enabling seamless, high-fidelity gaming on any device.
  • Self-Driving Cars and 5G: We are investigating how 5G can enhance the safety and performance of self-driving cars through ultra-reliable low-latency communication.
