xG Research Center Releases 5G Network Performance Measurement Results: Exceeding Expectations and Setting a New Standard

Bandung, Indonesia – May 15th, 2023 – The xG Research Center of Use Cases and Applications (“xG Research Center”) today announced the results of its comprehensive 5G network performance measurement campaign. The findings reveal that commercial 5G networks in the vicinity of the research center are exceeding expectations, delivering impressive speeds and setting a new benchmark for mobile connectivity in Indonesia.

Exceeding Expectations: A Testament to 5G Capabilities

The measurement campaign, initiated to establish a baseline understanding of 5G network performance, has yielded remarkable results. The findings demonstrate the significant advancements in mobile technology and highlight the potential of 5G to transform various sectors of the Indonesian economy.

Key Findings:

  • Download Speeds Surpass Global Benchmarks: Commercial 5G networks in the area have demonstrated download speeds that surpass the theoretical values defined in the IMT-2020 Vision by ITU-R (International Telecommunication Union – Radiocommunication Sector). Furthermore, these speeds exceed the benchmark values reported by Opensignal in June 2022, with a deviation of up to 38.0%. This indicates that Indonesian 5G networks are performing exceptionally well compared to global standards.
  • Upload Speeds Set New Records: The measured upload speeds on commercial 5G networks also exceeded Opensignal’s benchmark values, with a deviation of up to 77.3%. This highlights the significant improvement in upload capabilities, which are crucial for applications that require large data transfers, such as video conferencing, cloud storage, and real-time collaboration.
  • 5G Outperforms 4G Networks: The measured download and upload speeds on 5G networks significantly surpass the speeds of commercial 4G networks in Indonesia, as reported by Opensignal. This confirms the substantial performance gains offered by 5G technology, paving the way for a new era of mobile applications and services.

Implications for 5G Development in Indonesia

These findings have significant implications for the development and adoption of 5G technology in Indonesia:

  • Confidence in 5G Capabilities: The results provide strong evidence of the capabilities of 5G networks in Indonesia, instilling confidence in businesses and consumers to embrace this transformative technology.
  • Accelerated 5G Adoption: The impressive performance of 5G networks is likely to encourage faster adoption across various sectors, driving innovation and economic growth.
  • Enhanced User Experience: The high speeds and low latency offered by 5G will enable a superior user experience for mobile applications and services, transforming the way people work, communicate, and access information.
