In this context, the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) starting from the secondary education level is a strategic step in preparing competent human resources (HR) that are relevant to the needs of future industries. <em>Artificial Intelligence<\/em> . <em>.<\/em> .<\/p>\n<p>This was conveyed by Dr. Hamonangan Situmorang, S.T., M.T., Head of the Telematics Laboratory, Telecommunication Expertise Group, School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (SEEI) ITB, during the Workshop on AI and IoT Development in Education held on October 14, 2025, at the Auditorium of SMK Wiraswasta Cimahi, which was attended by vocational high school (SMK) educators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe introduction of AI and IoT technologies at the SMK level is very important because both are the main pillars of the Industry 4.0 era and serve as a bridge toward Industry 5.0,\u201d said Dr. Hamonangan. \u201cSMK students not only need to understand theory, but also how these technologies are directly used in the workplace, for example in automation systems, smart manufacturing, and predictive maintenance.\u201d <em>.<\/em>. <em>.<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, vocational education plays a strategic role in preparing skilled workers who are able to adapt to the digital transformation of industry. Through project-based learning and simulations, students can practice thinking like modern industrial technicians\u2014not merely repairing machines after they break down, but also preventing failures by utilizing sensor data and AI-based analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the readiness of vocational schools in Indonesia to adopt AI and IoT technologies, Dr. Hamonangan assessed that steps in this direction have begun to emerge, although strengthening is still needed in several aspects such as curriculum, infrastructure, and teacher competence. \u201cSome SMKs have started to have simple IoT laboratories based on Arduino or ESP32. This is a good step, but adoption needs to be expanded and standardized. Support for teacher training and collaboration with universities is key to ensuring that learning is truly relevant to industry needs,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>He added that national programs such as Merdeka Belajar provide ample space for the development of project-based learning, which strongly supports experimentation and the implementation of AI and IoT systems in the SMK environment.<em>project-based learning<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Dr. Hamonangan emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities and secondary schools in building a sustainable, technology-based education ecosystem. \u201cAt SEEI ITB, we hope that this collaboration does not stop at training or socialization alone. Universities can serve as centers of research and innovation, while secondary schools become the front line of implementation. In this way, we create a nationally connected chain of technology learning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, this approach will enable SMK students to learn directly from real industrial cases while opening opportunities for students and lecturers to develop applied research with social and economic impact.<\/p>\n<p>Through activities such as the Workshop on AI and IoT Development in Education, SEEI ITB is committed to strengthening the capacity of teachers and students in understanding, simulating, and implementing digital technologies at the school level. \u201cOur hope is that this initiative becomes part of a national movement to produce a generation of young Indonesian technologists who are not only capable of using technology, but also able to create new innovations for the progress of the nation,\u201d Dr. Hamonangan concluded.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bandung, stei.itb.ac.id\/redesign \u2013\u00a0Transformasi menuju era Industri 4.0 dan 5.0 menuntut dunia pendidikan untuk beradaptasi cepat terhadap kemajuan teknologi digital.
