On Monday, January 8, 2018, 27 ITB Telecommunication Engineering students from the Class of 2014 departed for a neighboring country to undertake an excursion. What is a Telecommunication Engineering excursion? The Telecommunication Engineering excursion has been an annual activity of the ITB Telecommunication Engineering Study Program since three years ago. This activity, chaired by Maharaja Arizona, was held for 5 days, from January 8, 2018 to January 12, 2018. The destination for this 2018 excursion activity was one of the countries in Southeast Asia, namely Singapore.<\/p>\n

This activity, accompanied by Mr. Rifqy Hakimi, ST., MT., was motivated by the students' need to understand the challenges in the industrial world, in addition to the theories they have learned during lectures. So that students can observe the application of theories in the world of work. In addition, students can understand and provide views on problems that occur in the world of telecommunications. This activity also received positive support from all lecturers of the ITB Telecommunication Engineering Study Program. \"Excursions are very positive activities because they can open students' insights into the world of work that they will enter later. Excursions must continue to be carried out and their quality must be improved by visiting more varied countries,\" said the Head of the ITB Telecommunication Engineering Study Program, Dr. Tutun Juhana, ST., MT., Thursday (25\/01).<\/p>\n

Lalu, apa sih<\/em> What will be done during the excursion? Well, this excursion includes visits to higher education institutions offering electrical\/telecommunications majors and companies operating in the telecommunications sector, which can serve as good examples in the professional and educational world of the telecommunications study group. Singapore was chosen as the destination country because it is one of the countries with the most rapid technological progress and the best infrastructure in the Asian region.<\/p>\n

For more details, let's take a look at the story of the 2018 Telecommunication Engineering excursion activities for 5 days in Singapore!<\/p>\n

First day<\/strong>The excursion participants arrived at Changi International Airport in Singapore and then proceeded to their accommodation in the Penhas Road area. The tour continued with a visit to the iExperience technology exhibition. The Information and Communications Technology Experience Cent<\/em>re<\/em> (iExperience) is a permanent infocom exhibition founded by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore<\/em> (IDA) to present the benefits of Nationwide Broadband Network<\/em> (NBN). The iExperience, located at Esplanade Xchange, provides an exploratory experience of how smart nation services can improve services and quality of life for consumers, and increase business competitiveness. Smart Nation <\/em>presented in this exhibition shows the forms of IoT utilization (.<\/em>), seperti Smart <\/em>Living<\/em>, Smart <\/em>Data<\/em>, Smart <\/em>Workspace<\/em>, Smart Discovery<\/em>, Smart District<\/em>. Smart Ideas<\/em>. Excursion participants were explained about each attraction and had the opportunity to try each one. It was truly fun and insightful!<\/p>\n

On the second day, excursion participants visited a company operating in the Information Technology (IT) sector with basic technology. Internet Protocol<\/em>Cisco Systems Office Singapore, located in UE BizHub East. Cisco is an IT giant with over 52,000 employees in over 70 countries and headquartered in Singapore. Cisco's primary business areas are: .<\/em>, digital video<\/em>, switching<\/em>, enterprise video<\/em>and others. In addition, Cisco also collaborates with national departments of education on networking education. During this visit, participants were introduced to several of Cisco's advanced products. Cisco also provided a wealth of information about the company through office tour<\/em>. No less important, excursion participants also get information about recruitment<\/em> at Cisco. Interested in a future career at Cisco?<\/p>\n

On the third day, participants became even more enthusiastic about the excursion. They continued their visit to Microsoft Singapore on Marina Boulevard. Microsoft began operating in Singapore in 1990 and now employs more than 850 workers. Founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975, the company develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports computing-related products and services. Microsoft Corporation is now the largest and number one software producer in the world. Therefore, it is undeniable that Microsoft is one of the most valuable companies in the world. During this visit, participants were given general information about Microsoft, including its vision, mission, and programs. recruitment<\/em> from Microsoft. In addition, participants were also given knowledge about how to write a CV (curriculum vitae<\/em>) that is good and correct. Then, at the end of the visit, participants were introduced to and tried out several very interesting Microsoft products.<\/p>\n

Then on the same day, participants visited one of the universities in Singapore, namely NTU (Nanyang Technological University<\/em>). NTU was founded in 1981 and is the second best public university in Singapore. QS University Ranking 2016<\/em>NTU is ranked 13th worldwide. NTU is a research-focused university. On this visit, the excursion participants were welcomed by SEEE (School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering<\/em>). Participants received an explanation related to several study programs at SEEE. Then, participants were invited to visit several research laboratories, namely SaRC (Satellite Research Centre<\/em>), Smart Mobility Experience Lab<\/em>. Robotics<\/em>At SaRC, participants were shown and explained several types of satellites launched by NTU. Then, at Smart Mobility Experience Lab<\/em>, participants were presented with several projects Smart Campus<\/em> from NTU, namely in the form of installing several sensors placed on the roads around NTU. Then in Robotics Lab<\/em>, NTU showed participants several projects it is developing, one of which is a robot that can climb stairs.<\/p>\n

On the fourth day, participants were divided into several groups to explore several places in Singapore, so that participants could learn about the development of Singapore itself. Some of the places visited included Merlion Park, Gardens By The Bay, Orchard Road, China Town, Little India, Bugis Street, Henderson Waves, Botanic Gardens, Sentosa Island, and ArtScience Museum. In this excursion activity, participants learned about several things such as Singapore's excellent technological development that can be developed in Indonesia and motivated students to catch up with our neighboring country by developing our beloved country through technological development. In addition, the excursion activity also strengthened the togetherness of the class and increased the sense of responsibility of the participants, both during the preparation process and during the implementation.<\/p>\n

On January 12, 2018, all the excursion participants returned home delighted, bringing home invaluable knowledge, invaluable experiences, and unforgettable stories. So, what did one of the participants in the 2018 Telecommunications Engineering excursion think?<\/p>\n

\"I was able to learn about technology in Singapore, where the implementation is very different from Indonesia, and I learned how to encourage its citizens to be orderly. Furthermore, this activity also strengthened the camaraderie among my classmates. Hopefully, the juniors will be even more enthusiastic about future excursions. For TPB students, Telecommunications Engineering is the only department at ITB that offers excursions abroad. loh<\/em>! Hehehe,<\/em>\u201d ujar Ghazy Mahendra.<\/p>\n
