Grab officially announced that former Line boss, Ongki Kurniawan, is now officially serving as Managing Director of GrabPay Indonesia.<\/p>\n

Grab stated that Ongki's appointment is expected to help GrabPay accelerate Kudo's integration with Grab, build strong partnerships across the ecosystem, and expand Kudo's online marketplace. Grab previously acquired Kudo as part of its strategy to expand GrabPay's presence in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\"We are delighted to have Ongki on board to develop GrabPay in Indonesia and accelerate financial inclusion for Indonesians. Indonesia's unique and expansive market requires world-class expertise, and we are confident that Ongki's experience, spanning telecommunications, payments, social media, and e-commerce, will strengthen the local management of our Indonesian team,\" said Jason Thompson, Head of GrabPay, in a written statement received by CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (September 18).<\/p>\n

As part of the Indonesian leadership team, Ongki will report directly to Jason Thompson, Head of GrabPay. Meanwhile, Grab Indonesia will remain led by Ridzki Kramadibrata as Managing Director.<\/p>\n

Ongki's position as Managing Director is equal to Ridzki's as Managing Director of Grab Indonesia. \"Yes, they are equal, and GrabPay is still under the same Grab umbrella, not a separate entity,\" explained a Grab Indonesia spokesperson when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com on Monday (September 18).<\/p>\n

Ongki himself will work with 150 local engineers at Grab's R&D center and an extensive network of partners to build payment solutions for Indonesian consumers and SMEs. He is also expected to differentiate Indonesia's fledgling and fragmented payments industry.<\/p>\n

\"I share Grab's enthusiasm for helping Indonesians benefit from the digital economy through innovations created in Indonesia. GrabPay's vision of bringing everyone into the digital economy \u2013 from the middle class to small businesses across Indonesia \u2013 is one way to help realize Indonesia's goal of becoming the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia, and I look forward to being part of that journey,\" said Ongki.<\/p>\n

Ongki's joining the on-demand service app was already known in early September. Dewi Nuraini, Public Relations Manager of Grab Indonesia, confirmed the news at the time.<\/p>\n

Grab itself appears to be getting serious about developing GrabPay. Last November, Grab hired Jason Thompson, Head of GrabPay, and ten months later, appointed GrabPay's Managing Director in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

Before becoming Managing Director of LINE, Ongki's career was quite extensive. He served as Director\/Chief Digital and Director\/CTO of XL Axiata, a Principal at BCG, and a Credit Analyst at Citi Corporate Banking Group. He also served as a Board Member at Adknowledge Asia and a Board Member at Elevenia.<\/p>\n

Ongki holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. He has completed all levels (1-3) of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program from The CFA Institute. (eks)<\/strong><\/p>\n
