The CIMOL team, young developers from the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia, successfully qualified for the Southeast Asia finals at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017 with their application, Hoax Analyzer.<\/p>\n

The CIMOL team consists of Adinda Budi Kusuma Putra, Feryandi Nurdiantoro, and Tifani Warnita, all Informatics Engineering students from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Bandung Institute of Technology. They were accompanied by Dr. Ayu Purwarianti, ST, MT, a lecturer who served as a mentor in developing their work.<\/p>\n

Hoax Analyzer is a web application designed to help users investigate whether information, whether text or images, is a hoax or fact. Using various advanced technologies such as machine learning and natural language processing, Hoax Analyzer analyzes and evaluates the information we provide, complete with references and instructions for sharing on social media.<\/p>\n

The CIMOL team successfully outperformed 521 students from various regions in Indonesia who had gone through a rigorous selection process to reach the Indonesian final round. The five Indonesian finalists, who were selected in March, presented the final results of the applications they developed. The selected CIMOL team will depart for Manila, Philippines, on April 23-26, 2017, to meet and compete with winners from other Southeast Asian countries.<\/p>\n

\"We are happy and proud of our team's success. It is an honor for us to represent Indonesia in the Southeast Asia finals in Manila. We created the Hoax Analyzer application to reduce the amount of hoax information circulating in the community. We hope our findings will be useful for everyone in Indonesia, and even around the world,\" said Adinda Budi Kusuma Putra from the CIMOL team.<\/p>\n

The selected finalists will compete for tickets to the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017 World Final which will be held at Microsoft headquarters in Seattle, United States in July 2017. This competition has a grand prize of Rp 1.3 billion in cash and Rp 1.6 billion in Microsoft Azure services.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Indonesia Developer Evangelism and Experience Director Anthonius Henricus expressed his appreciation for all the Imagine Cup Indonesia finalists. \"All participating teams truly demonstrated extraordinary creativity and innovation. Fifty percent of the assessment focused on the use of technology in application development, particularly cloud computing technology, Azure,\" he said in a written statement on Friday (April 7).
