Antarajabar.com – Technology verification and manufacturing company Honeywell and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) inaugurated the first world-class control lab in Indonesia that will provide students with access to the latest control technology in the refining, processing, and manufacturing industries and equip engineers with industrial internet of things (IoT) knowledge.<\/p>\n
\"We are very grateful for Honeywell's commitment to supporting the improvement of the quality of our curriculum and learning facilities,\" said ITB Chancellor Prof. Kadarsah Suryadi, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the control lab, at the Labtek VIII Building, ITB Campus, Bandung City, Thursday.<\/p>\n
The new control lab is located at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI-ITB) and is equipped with Experion PKS Orion which is used in the leading, open and cyber-secure control system on the market.<\/p>\n
This system will be used to teach thermodynamics, basic process control and advanced control commonly used in the oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, energy and mining industries.<\/p>\n
Kadarsah said the presence of this control lab can help his institution to ensure that students receive the world-class technical education they need when they enter the workforce after graduating from college.<\/p>\n
\"Especially in this era, where the Indonesian nation is determined to increase competitiveness in the manufacturing industry,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Director General of Learning and Student Affairs, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Intan Ahmad, said that cooperation between educational institutions and the private sector is very important in improving the quality of education in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Honeywell's support for ITB, Intan said, is a concrete example of how a company can help higher education institutions and she hopes this effort will be followed by other companies in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education is very proud of this new facility and we believe that this lab can become an example of a center of excellence in research and development for control systems for Indonesia and the world,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Honeywell Indonesia President Director Alex Pollack said that due to the growth of energy in Indonesia and the need for skilled and work-ready engineers has increased across all technology sectors.<\/p>\n
According to him, the new control lab is equipped with Honeywell's latest technology that combines software capabilities with expertise in this field.<\/p>\n
\"This lab will be very beneficial for ITB for years to come. We believe that ITB's position as a leading educational institution will help students be better prepared to face various challenges along with the development of the industrial sector in Indonesia, especially in the oil and gas sector, to create a safer, more productive and efficient operating environment,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The miniature manufacturing unit of refining operation in this control lab includes a small scale distillation unit which is designed as a miniature of the operating unit to demonstrate various control system techniques used to refine crude oil, biodiesel, kerosene, chemicals, solvents and other materials.<\/p>\n
Both control systems can be used as a supporting process for teaching and learning processes related to factory operations, tuning, troubleshooting, model identification and testing, advanced process control and asset management.<\/p>\n
