ITB students once again demonstrated their abilities in the national energy-efficient car competition, the Indonesia Energy Marathon Challenge (IEMC) 2013. The competition, held on Thursday-Sunday (14-17\/11\/13), was organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti) in collaboration with the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). Held at the Kenjeran Circuit Park, Surabaya, the event was held to test the ability to design a vehicle that is fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe to drive.<\/p>\n

Today, the automotive industry is facing the challenge of high fuel prices coupled with dwindling fuel supplies. Various companies and factories in the automotive industry are competing to design fuel-efficient products or to use alternative fuels other than petroleum. Based on these issues, the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti) is attempting to initiate an event to accelerate the development of the latest automotive technology in Indonesia, thereby fostering the emergence of new technologies in the automotive sector that can be utilized to save fuel or serve as alternative fuels.<\/p>\n

\"\"In this event, students from various ITB study programs, who are members of the Cikal Cakrawala Team, competed against hundreds of other students. The participating students came from all universities, institutes, and polytechnics across Indonesia that met the criteria. The participating teams were challenged to develop an innovation with a concept. green technology<\/em>, a concept that prioritizes innovation without ignoring its impact on the environment. In this competition, innovation is emphasized on the efficiency of propulsion consumption implemented in a car.<\/p>\n

In this innovation, the ITB Cikal Cakrawala Team succeeded in achieving the position runner-up<\/em> by reaching 69.2053 km\/kWh in the electric urban category. Although it was not able to beat the Nagageni II Team from ITS, this achievement was the best achievement of the Cikal Cakrawala Team in the competition in that category from a total of 3 race trials. \"Actually, we were optimistic that we could reach a longer distance. However, the short time span between races made the car's electric motor still hot, so its efficiency decreased,\" explained Hafid Pradhitya Jenie, Manager of the Cikal Cakrawala ITB Team.

Selain berhasil meraih posisi runner-up<\/em> In the urban electric category, the car from the Cikal Cakrawala ITB Team also won the best design award. Under the guidance of Dr. Ir. Agus Purwadi, MT, the team successfully designed a car that met the IEMC 2013 committee's assessment parameters. According to the jury, body <\/em>The Cikal Cakrawala ITB Team car has a good and attractive design, without neglecting the ergonomic design of the driver's compartment.<\/p>\n

According to Hafid, the team gained various experiences and lessons learned during the competition. \"We still hope to evaluate and improve the car's design for even better results,\" he said.<\/p>\n
