This forward-looking research aims to contribute to the development of next-generation mobile networks\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">with enhanced performance, expanded capabilities, and the potential to unlock new applications and services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stei.itb.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/xG.23a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23755\" src=\"https:\/\/stei.itb.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/xG.23a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"914\" height=\"479\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">5.5G: The Next Frontier in Mobile Communication<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Building on the foundation of 5G, 5.5G aims to further enhance mobile networks across three main dimensions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB):<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Delivering even higher data speeds, increased capacity, and improved spectral efficiency to support demanding applications like high-resolution video streaming, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC):<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Pushing the boundaries of low latency and high reliability to enable mission-critical applications such as industrial automation, remote surgery, and autonomous vehicles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC):<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Expanding the network&#8217;s ability to connect a massive number of devices, paving the way for the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, and other large-scale deployments.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Driving Innovation in 5.5G<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The xG Research Center&#8217;s research will delve into innovative techniques to optimize resource allocation, improve spectral efficiency, and enhance network reliability in 5.5G networks. This includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Advanced Antenna Technologies:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Investigating the use of massive MIMO and beamforming to increase network capacity and coverage, enabling more users and devices to connect simultaneously.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Exploring the potential of AI and ML to optimize network performance, predict traffic patterns, and enable intelligent resource management.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Collaboration for Advancement<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While commercial operators are already investing heavily in 5.5G research and development, the xG Research Center believes that academic research plays a vital role in driving innovation and pushing the boundaries of this evolving technology.
