ITB students from three different teams won awards in the Urban Concept category at the annual Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) Asia 2012 competition, held from Wednesday to Saturday (July 4-7, 2012). They were the Cikal Cakrasvarna team, which won first place in the gasoline class, the Cikal Cakrawala team, which won first place in the... runner-up for the lithium battery fuel class, and the Cikal Diesel team as runner-up for the alternative diesel fuel class. Additionally, the Rakata team also secured third place in the Prototype group using ethanol fuel.

The Cikal Cakrasvarna team won first place in the Urban Concept category with the longest distance traveled at 196.3 km per liter of gasoline, beating 16 other teams. Their Cakrasvarna car maintained a similar achievement achieved last year by the Cikal Nusantara team in the same event. At that time, the distance traveled was 116.7 km per liter of gasoline. The Rakata team, which also competed last year, managed to exceed their mileage from 244 km/L to 291 km/L this year in the Prototype category using pure ethanol fuel.

For 2012, ITB students began exploring alternative fuels using lithium batteries and diesel in the Urban Concept category. Urban Concept is a design group for conventional four-wheeled vehicles that are fuel-efficient and meet the needs of today's drivers. No joke, the Cikal Cakrawala team immediately won second place with a range of 74.9 km for every kWh of lithium batteries they used. Meanwhile, the Cikal Diesel team managed to become the first-ever winner. runner-up after successfully covering 149 km for every liter of alternative diesel fuel they used. The alternative fuel in question is FAME (fatty acid methyl esther, fatty acid methyl esters), which are designed for use in diesel engines.

Shell Eco-Marathon 2012 Better

The Shell Eco-Marathon is a competition that has been held in Europe since 1985. Since 2010, the Shell Eco-Marathon has been held annually in Asia at the Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this competition, various student-designed cars compete using various fuel types to cover the greatest distance on a given amount of fuel. Fuels used include lithium batteries, diesel, ethanol, FAME, gasoline, GTL (gas-to-liquid), hydrogen, and solar energy.

With this competition, it is hoped that students can be part of the solution to address environmental issues related to vehicle fuel use. "This event is not just a competition, but turning ideas into reality. We hope students will be enthusiastic about finding creative and intelligent mobility solutions to address the energy challenges we face today," said Shell Eco-Marathon Asia General Manager Mavis Kuek, as reported by Kompas.

Overall, this year's SEM Asia participants were better prepared. As evidence, out of 119 teams from 18 countries, 109 passed the technical inspection. "I'm pleased to see the better quality of designs this year; the competing teams have a much better understanding of how to pass their technical inspections," said SEM Asia Technical Director Chin Mun Hau. situs resmi SEM“But more than that, I want to encourage the spirit of kindness and collaboration that I've seen (in this competition–ed.). Participants can learn from each other, and it's been great to see them do that.”

The achievements of ITB students in international events such as the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2012 are the result of the synergy and hard work of highly motivated students from various study programs, such as Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics, as well as Industrial Engineering and Product Design. It is hoped that this achievement will continue to be maintained and developed, until it can eventually lead Indonesia to win the overall championship, which is currently held by the Luk Jao Mae Khlong Prapa team from Dhurakij Pundit University, Thailand, which managed to reach 2903 km/L.

sumber: itb.ac.id

Berita baik datang dari arena sirkuit internasional Sepang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
