Savlite Team <\/b>whose members are M. Ali Novandhika (<\/span>Electrical Engineering<\/span><\/a> 2018), Priyo Bayu R. (Mechanical Engineering 2018), M. Maulana Ibrahim (Mechanical Engineering 2018), and Yahya Zakaria (Mechanical Engineering 2018) successfully brought home the Runner Up title in the Think Efficiency 2022 event entitled \u201cPowering The Nation\u201d. This competition was held by Shell Indonesia and Energy Academy Indonesia (ECADIN).<\/span><\/p>\n

They successfully developed a new and renewable resource that generates electricity from wind energy. While driving, we often experience the force of the wind when passing trucks or cars at high speed. Based on this phenomenon, they considered the potential for harnessing the wind energy generated by these events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Calculations show that 11-13% of energy is lost due to air drag for every car moving at an average speed of 100 km\/h. This phenomenon creates fluid dynamics, where air moves around a moving object. The Savlite team saw an opportunity for innovation in this \"unintentional\" event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), a combination of two study programs from two faculties, have created Savlite, an integrated product combining a Savonius turbine and a toll road streetlight, also known as the Self-Sustaining Smart Street Lighting System. A turbine is installed in the middle of the toll road to capture wind energy from passing vehicles.\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The electrical energy generated can power streetlights. Based on a Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, a single vehicle traveling at an average speed of 90 km\/h can generate 100 Watts Peak, enough to power a streetlight for 12 hours. The streetlights used have a power rating of 120 Watts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their success is inseparable from the support of many parties, including Syarif Riyadi, Co-Founder of ECADIN, who served as a mentor throughout the competition. The Think Efficiency 2022 jury, who frequently provided constructive feedback, was also instrumental in Team Savlite's success.<\/span><\/p>\n

These four students advised them to always innovate because they believe their country possesses resources, both natural and human, that are comparable to those of other nations. \"You have to be able to create something, but it must still be scientifically sound,\" said one member of the Savlite Team. They also advised them to participate in competitions as early as possible, as this will provide them with experience beyond lectures alone.<\/span><\/p>\n
