BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - The Garuda Boys ITB team successfully beat participants from various countries in the Satellite Tool Kit (STK) software usage and development competition. Winning first place in the STK Engine (development) category in the competition organized by Analytical Graphics, Inc., the Garuda Boys team was able to produce a simulator that makes it easier for operators to use this STK software.<\/p>\n

Informatics Engineering Study Program .<\/a> ITB<\/a><\/strong>The Garuda Boys team developed a Lapan Tubsat Operations simulator based on STK software in the AGI University Grant Competition. Over six months, from Monday (November 1, 2010) to Wednesday (May 4, 2011), the competition challenged students to develop a simulator capable of solving various problems on land, sea, air, and space, as well as developing the software.<\/p>\n Hagorly said, \"There are three categories being competed, namely STK Expert (Land\/Sea\/Air), STK Expert (Space), and STK Engine (Development). The Garuda Boys ITB team chose STK Engine with the theme of the LAPAN-TUBSAT satellite, which is the first satellite purely made in Indonesia. \"So by using this software, we created and developed a ground station simulator to control the satellite (ed. LAPAN-TUBSAT),\" explained Hagorly. <\/p>\n Percepat Proses Belajar Operator Satelit <\/strong> Under the guidance of Dr. Ridanto Eko Poetro and Dr. Rianto Adhy Sasongko, the Garuda Boys ITB team managed to achieve brilliant and proud achievements. In this competition, ITB proved its ability to compete in the international arena with the results of the competition: the first place in the STK Expert (Land\/Sea\/Air) category was won by Team Michael Bociaga from Purdue University, United States, and the first place in the STK Expert (Space) category was won by Team Martin L\u00f6scher from the Institute for Aerospace Engineering Technical University of Dresden, Germany.<\/p>\n
\n\"This simulator can ultimately speed up the learning process for new LAPAN-TUBSTAT operators,\" Satriya explained. The use of low-resolution cameras due to damaged star sensors is one of the obstacles in determining the satellite's attitude. Hagorly added, \"Currently, it takes about a year to make operators skilled enough to effectively utilize the approximately 10 minutes when the satellite passes by to take the desired images.\" The learning time is long because the satellite only passes by three to four times a day with an average duration of ten minutes.<\/p>\n
