While in the 1990s, robots could only be created by a small group of people, today more and more people are creating robots and making human work easier. An example is the work of three students majoring in Electrical Engineering at the Institute of Technology, School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics: Syawaludin Rachmatullah, Samratul Fuady, and Ashlih Dameitry.<\/p>\n<p>With their creativity and perseverance, yesterday they left for the United States, to represent Indonesia in the Trinity Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest 2011 in Hartford City, Connecticut, United States on April 9-10, 2011. The robot they will present at the world-class competition is a type of fire-fighting robot named Zarqun.<\/p>\n<p>Syawaludin explained that in April 2010, he had gone to the same event with the same type of robot, but only finished fourth. Therefore, this year, he is determined to win because, according to Syawal, his nickname, their robot can compete with robots from other countries. Besides ITB, Indonesia will also be represented by the Gadjah Mada University robotics team.<\/p>\n<p>Syawaludin and his friends were the Indonesian delegation to the Trinity Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest 2011, after winning the national championship in June 2010, held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. They were optimistic about becoming world champions this time, as their robot creation had undergone improvements. On their departure, they were accompanied by Dr. Kusprasapta Mutijarsa  and the manager of the ITB Robot Team, Dody Suhendra.<\/p>\n<p>\"We've been designing this robot since 2008. When we first entered the national contest in 2009, we won. After that, we refined the robot. Unfortunately, during the 2010 competition in the United States, we miscalculated and only managed to finish fourth. This time, we have to do better because we have previous experience,\" said Syawaludin during a visit to the Pikiran Rakyat editorial office on Jl. Soekarno Hatta, Bandung.<\/p>\n<p>Zarqun is a type of fire-fighting robot equipped with various fire-detecting sensors. Weighing 3 kilograms and standing approximately 30 centimeters tall, Zarqun is an intelligent, legged robot designed to help humans. Ashlih explained that the robot's body is made in-house, but the components that make Zarqun sophisticated are still imported. It costs a significant amount of money to bring Zarqun to life.<\/p>\n<p>Zarqun can \"live\" with the help of a battery. It explores the room using ultrasonic sensors. It then detects fire using infrared sensors.
