Subfields within telecommunications engineering include fault-tolerant computing, digital signal processing, digital communications, modulation and coding, electromagnetic wave propagation, fiber and integrated optics, lasers, wireless communications, mobile IP, wireless multimedia, DWDM networks, QoS assurance protocols, network design and optimization, telecommunication software, system performance, ad hoc and PCS wireless networks, network security, high-speed protocols, and many more.<\/p><p>TESRG is a scientific and research group under the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (SEEI) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), where faculty members with shared interests in the field of telecommunications engineering come together. TESRG was established as a consequence of the university reform aimed at becoming an independent entity, reducing reliance on government support.<\/p><p>Historically, following the publication of C. Shannon's seminal seminar work, the \"Mathematical Theory of Communication\" emerged in 1948, and with advances in microelectronics and computers, telecommunications science and technology progressed rapidly. Today, the field is moving toward the convergence of computer networks and communications. Therefore, it is essential to establish a scientific and research group in this area. TESRG's activities focus on the generation, transmission, processing, and dissemination of information\u2014strategic areas in the information era.<\/p><p>TESRG has three main duties: education, research, and community service related to telecommunications. Definition of Passive Radar<\/h3><p>Passive Radar is a target detection system similar to conventional radar, but without transmitting a signal to the target. As part of Electronic Warfare, Passive Radar is capable of detecting targets using signals originating from the target itself or third-party signals such as radio or TV broadcasts, or other signals to determine the target's 3D location and track it.<\/p><\/article><article class=\"kkb-paper kkb-facility\"><h3>2. Passive Radar R and D Activities<\/h3><p>STEI ITB together with PT.LAPI ITB through funding from Alpalhan Balitbang Kemhan, developed the Indonesian Passive Radar which has the main components of 1 Master Station and 3 Remote Stations. The Indonesian Passive Radar combines 3 main sensors namely PET (passive emitter tracking), PCL (passive coherent location) and MLAT (multilateration). The Indonesian Passive Radar has the following advantages when compared to conventional Active Radar:<\/p><ol class=\"kkb-list\"><li>Can operate covertly (observing targets without their knowledge) because it does not require RF signal transmission<\/li><li>Resistant to detection by electronic intelligence equipment and difficult to jam<\/li><li>Murah pengadaannya dan biaya O&amp;M karena tidak ada transmitter dan moving part<\/li><li>Compact and easy to deploy, even in difficult terrain<\/li><li>Has a very wide frequency band and can operate at lower frequencies (VHF\/UHF), making it effective for detecting stealth targets<\/li><li>Can detect low-altitude targets using signal diffraction<\/li><li>Fast updates every second<\/li><li>\u2018Green radar\u2019; no electromagnetic pollution<\/li><\/ol><\/article><article class=\"kkb-paper\"><h3>3.
