For “Jepret” Application, ITB Student Team Wins 1st Jamkrindo Hackathon 2019 Champion

BANDUNG, – The Bandung Institute of Technology student team created an application called Jepret. The application is useful as a complement and reformer of MSME data in Indonesia that operates by inviting the public to conduct a review and documentation of MSMEs in the vicinity.

In the Jepret application, the user can see a list of MSMEs around him and while in one of the MSMEs, the user can answer a number of questions to meet MSME data on the Jamkrindo database. After answering the question, users will be directed to take a photo alias take a business location. The user’s snapshot or photo will be further analyzed by validating the data received.

The application was made by Cornelius Yan Mintareja (Informatics 2016) as the team leader, Feby Eliana Tengry (System and Information Technology 2017), Christzen Leonardy (IF 16), Gabriel Bentara Raphael (IF 16), and Muhammad Aditya Hilmy (STI 17). Through the application, they won 1st place in the Jamkrindo Hackathon 2019, a national scale competition organized by the Indonesian Credit Guarantee Corporation (Perum Jamkrindo) in Jakarta on 9-13 July 2019.

With the theme “Smart Access Technology”, Jamkrindo Hackathon 2019 is a competition designed to solve Jamkrindo’s internal problems. This type of competition is a hackathon where participants are asked to realize the ideas that have been submitted within 48 hours. Participants of this competition come from various backgrounds, including students, the general public, and even start-ups.

Cornelius explained, this competition consisted of the proposal collection stage as well as the final stage. Of the 41 proposals received, only 10 teams entered the hackathon stage. The ten teams then realized their ideas and presented the results in front of the judges. Of the 10 teams, 3 of them are from students, the rest are participants who have worked.

Important features of the Jepret application have been tested in the final Jamkrindo Hackthon. This feature includes verification and review, which can be accessed for MSME businesses around the user. The inputted photos will be processed with image processing technology for data validation. Then there is also the Jamkrindo dashboard where Jamkrindo can view MSME data and approve loans submitted by MSMEs that have complete data. Finally, there are reports on the results of data analytics where Jamkrindo and MSMEs can see all reports on the results of data analysis. The user incentive feature is also no less interesting because of course it will benefit a lot of users.

“We are very grateful to be able to achieve this. I never thought I could win first place, but I was initially pessimistic, “said Feby, one of the team members when interviewed by ITB Public Relations Reporter.

He also revealed that this valuable experience gave a lot of new insights. As it turns out many activities around that can still be optimized with technological developments. Creative ideas are very valuable and we as young people must continue to innovate to help solve problems around by integrating technology.

Jamkrindo is a public company that has a very large number of customers. In providing credit, of course Jamkrindo must consider the prospect of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from the data collected. The greater the number of Jamkrindo’s customers, the more the data collection process will be, both for verification and validation purposes.

Until now, Jamkrindo still uses conventional methods to obtain data and verify MSMEs. This method is to use outsourced staff who visit MSMEs and fill data manually. Besides being expensive, this method sometimes results in incomplete data that is not verified properly.

“Then our team introduced Jepret. Jepret is present as a solution that empowers Indonesian people and technological advancements to increase the effectiveness of fulfilling MSME data, “explained Feby.

The impact of utilizing the general public is that MSMEs do not need to manually update data to Jamkrindo and the data obtained will be more up to date. In addition, the incentives given to users after each verification will encourage users to continue to verify so that it is easier to update the data.

“After completing the verification of UMKM, users of the Jepret application will get an incentive,” said Feby.
